I love my DD6 too.

The DD6 or even the S/E 6speed are fine units. I'd be comfortable making a selection based on price alone, between the two...

It really depends on the kind of riding you do, and the speed limits in your area. If you ride long distances, where speed limit is 75mph or 80 as in at least Texas, the 6 speed is great. If you live where the limit is 65 it may not help much. I rode from west of Denver to North Platte, Nebraska last weekend. About 275 miles each way. The speed limit was mostly 75 m.p.h.We rode about 5 over at 80 mph. I rode my '07 Flhx with 6 speed, my buddy an '01 Flt with a 5 speed. My mileage was considerably better and his engine was buzzing while mine was loafing at just under 3000 r.p.m. I also have a S.E. 6 speed in my '02 Fat Boy. It has a pretty hot 95" motor. It makes the bike into a comfortable high speed ride. I really like this tranny and it was worth the 2 grand investment for me. Your situation may be different.

I don't know what the cost will be. I have a 07 RKC I rarely have it in 6 gear and when I want to have it in 6th gear and keep the engine from not knocking what I call knocking I need to be going 65 mph if not 70 mph in order for the engine not sounding like it's knocking. If you are doing your ride and happy with your current set up I wouldn't spend the money for it.

Is it worth the money to up-grade toa 6 speed tranny from a 5 speed? If so, whats should I expect in performance as well as what make/brand to buy.
It depends on the year of the bike and riding habits.

My bike is an 01 and in 01 they were geared to be wheelie bikes but would scream on the highway. Yes a DD6 was worth every penny for my bike.

It is my understanding that the new bikes with 6 speeds are grossly undergeared thus the seldom use of 6th (Revolution makes a gear change for these bikes to help).

On some models you can get away with a compensating sprocket and chain change. If you travel the highways a lot at the pace of what North East traffic runs the 6 speed will be nice.

i'd think your money would be better spent and more noticable if used for engine upgrades,,, more cubes and more air = more power

That's a comparison I've been waiting to hear.

It is just according to how much highway driving you do if it would be worth it. I have an 07 Ultra and I switch to 6th gear around 63 miles per hour and lugging is not a problem at that speed unless you are in the hills. Easier on the engine and improved gas mileage.

Good choice. For the amount of $$$ that you would spend on it, one would have to put a "lot" of miles on to ever think that you got your money back in fuel savings (which would be minute).

If you rode on the freeway all the time at higher speeds, then maybe. Normal type of riding would be a waste of money.
