Default 103 Help Please!

I have a 2005 FLHT. I recently installed SE 103 kit, I used Andrews 26G cams. The problem I'm having is spark knocking. I ran a compression check and it was 172 psi. Is that too much? Could it be the cam timing? Sometimes it starts like it's out of timing, a ping right before it starts. would I benifit from SE ignition modual? Any help would grealy be appreciated.
Thanks, Harless

I'm assuming your bike is carbureted, since you're asking about a S.E ingnition module. With hotter cams and increased ompression you need to retard your initial spark timing.Your stock module won't allow that. You need a new one that has adifferentignition curve.S.E. made an adjustable module, I don't know if they still do. Dyna and Crane make good ones. Also make sure your carb is rich enough with the changes you've made. Most of what you're describing would be in the idle circuit. If you run a C.V. the idle screw under where the welsh plug used to be will richen up your low end mixture.

Thanks Northside, Yes, I'm using the stock cv carb. It has a 48 low jet and 195 main. I have the idle air screw turned out 2 1/2 turns, do I need to turn it back in or out more to richen the mixture? Thanks again for your advice!

Itsoundslike your jetted about right. For the best idle mixture: with the bike warmed up and idling, slowly turn out the idle screw until it slows the engine down. Next turn the screw back in past the point where it speeds up until it slows down again. Count the turns as your going back in. The right place is half way between the two points where the engine slowed.

If this doesn't help I'd go with an adjustable ignition module. The stock one is for stock cams and compression. I wouldn't go to the expense of compression releases on a 103.I don't need them on mine.

Thanks Northside, I'll try give the idle mixture a try....if that doesn't work, I'll get an adjustable ignition moduale.
Thanks, Harless
