I think my lesson from this is besides having to take the bike in to have the dealer check it out, I need to find a hill without a traffic light and cars behind me, and PRACTICE. I think that because the hill was steep and there were cars behind me, I probably was a little higher with the rpms than I should have been. I certainly didn't feel as comfortable as I should have been.(Riding for6 months+ heavy bike + hill/red light/cars behind me). Still no excuse for a stuck throttle.

I have an 08 RKC and I know about the throttle issue. I always have the throttle down when I shut the bike off. I was riding today and all was fine. I came to a red light on a hill so I held my position with the clutch and a little throttle.
Well, sir, I'm going to just say it straight out - if you have to stop *any* kind of vehicle "on a hill", you don't "hold your position" with your clutch and throttle. I don't give a damn what it is - you use BRAKES to stay put. That's it. What about that don't you understand?

When you're stopped, throttle's at idle, clutch is disengaged, and the brakes do the work.

The rest of your post was incomprehensible.

If any of the above doesn't make sense to you, just get help.
Now wasn't that helpful and informative. I just don't get some people but I think thats a good thing.

Regardless of how you "hold your position on a hill" your bike shouldn't be acting that way. I have had a similar thing with my 07 actually just a couple of times in 12,000 miles. It will have a high idle all the sudden. I will shut her down and restart and all is well. Don't really know what causes it.

Don't have any answers for you but I would "practice" like you said where there ain't no traffic and try to duplicate the problem! Perhaps you can get it to do it again which would give you more ammunition when you take it back to the dealership.

Unfortunately my experience with the electronic throttle is minimal to none...maybe in a few years I'll have a little more know how. As for the gear sticking though, I have seen it in the three bikes I've owned. This may be completely unrelated, but oftentimes I'll be stuck in a certain gear or neutral. This usually happens if I coast to a stop without downshifting. If I'm stuck in gear I'll let the clutch out a bit until the gears just start to engage. After that I'm able to shift. If it's in neutral I'll roll the bike just a bit and the gears will release enough to allow me to shift.

Like I said, this may be completely unrelated, but sometimes a shot in the dark hits the mark. And as for practicing starts on a hill...can't hurt!

Hills are just plain and simple a bitch! Stalled my new Sportster out on a medium hill a year ago and embarassed the heck out of myself in front of 10 or 15 cars. Now I hold position with brakes, switch to just foot brake when I think the light's getting ready to turn, play the throttle and clutch till I feel it start to pull, then ease off foot brake. Probably not the textbook answer but it's worked for me so far.

Soon, you will just learn to justignorepeople like this.
If they don't totaly agree with your views, they will flame the bejesus out of you, instead of politely saying that they disagree with you.
I do actualy agree with the statement that you do not hold your position on a hill with the clutch.
As far as being incomprehensible, I understood exactlywhat you weretalking about.

Yes; never hold your position on a hill with your clutch, only brakes...remember...replacing brake pads is a helluva lot cheaper than a clutch!
The hard shifting may be due to needing a clutch adjustment. Dealer should be able to sort it out.

I pulled in the clutch and coasted to the side of the road. I shut everything down in the normal way, started back up and everything is fine. Any ideas? I didn't think that holding my position on a hill with the throttle and clutch would cause this problem.
new riders sometimes over rev, ride the clutch, jam the shifter, panic etc. it’s all part of the learning process. Practice and coaching makes a difference. It could be a mechanical problem, chances are it was just your inexperience causing the situation.
