oil question ?????????
with gas at the prices being what they are and the economy i'mreviewing everything from my phone and cable bill down to the cost of the oil i run. Mobil one and Amsoil are neck and neck in the reports i've read. My question is: if I were to switch to Mobil One would it make adiff if i used the 20/50 auto instaed of the 20/50 motorcycle specific?? both theamsoil and mobil are about 10 bucks a qt but the mobil one at the discount stores is 22 bucks a gallon. id run this in the engine only as i think itb has additives thats not friendly to the clutch.
My understanding is that motorcycle-specific oils have special additive packages for hotter-running air cooled engines. More phosphorus etc. Also no friction modifiers that would effect clutch performance.
I use Redline 20W60 in my shovel motors with great results. If you consider the longer oil change intervals with the synthetics, the costs just about average out.
Just my $.02
Good luck,
John

The advantages using synthetics are many that most people don't realize.Startup lube, less friction= less heat, better mileage, long change intervals, etc.Especially good if you are running a Turbo.
