I looking at an '03 RK right now that has 28K miles. How many miles can you rack up on these things until you start having some serious problems. I just completed a trip from Kansas City down to Ft. Worth on the ole Nightster, so I'm looking for something that can handle the long road trips and the rides around town. Am I looking at the right type bike?? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

Depends on how well its been maintained, I have friends with over 100k miles on RK's with very little maintance.
On the 03s the cam chain were a problem wearing out the shoes, and they needed checked at about 30k and if maintance was needed on them people usually go and replace them with stock or go with gear driven cams.
What do youconsider major? My old Panhead had at least 250k on it with only two overhauls and one of those was to hot rod it a bit!
I can see these new bikes having issues with the electronics after a certain length of time, but as long as I can get replacement parts for wear items and electronics the main parts of the engine/frame should hold up well.
I have an 03 RKC, I have 32k on the clock. I just maintain it and have no problems. I did just do the cam chain tensioners but I think that is considered maintenance. My mechanic told me to just keep maintaining it like I do with regular services, keep it clean, and just ride it.
