Default Clutch cable meltdown!!!!!!!!!!

They say you learn somthing new everyday, Well I did yesterday. Got on my bike turned the key hit the starter button and smoke came out the end of my clutch cable. I like to have shet on myself. Cable locked up solid. I checked things over and then put it on the trailer and went to the dealership. Soon as I told the service guy what was going on he told me what went wrong without even getting up. Said it had been happening a good bit. Seens with every thing being rubber mounted if you some how get a bad ground the battery tries to ground through the clutch cable. Instant welded cable. Sure enough that was it. Don't ask me how but my ground cable wasn't making good contact. Just a little somthing I think yaw need to watch. I had never heard of that before.

I put a cable clamp on the front downtube. Stops the cable from rubbing/touching the frame and looks good!

Its my understanding that what happens is at the point where the cable goes through the adjustment area is where it welds it self. The cable connects inside the trans so when the motor tries to find a ground it does so where the metal enter cable mets the metal adjuster. He also told me he saw one bike weld the stearing neck brgs into the triple tree. Thinking of maybe run a second ground cable

That is a really good thing to know. I am going out to the garage and check my ground wire right now!

I have seen this happen before with the exact same explanation from my dealer.

Yep, I've seen it a bunch of times. Most will do it through the throttle cables.
