?? For owners of black harleys
Back "in the day", the subject of color was discussed in psyc class.
Cars were used in the example.
80% of the subjects experienced a reaction to a black car. 60%+/- expressed a positive reaction. 40ish % would buy the black vehicle.
Only 33% had any reaction to a white vehicle. 25ish % expressed a positive reaction. 15 % would purchase the white vehicle.
90 some % had a reaction to the red vehicle. But only 25% had a positive reaction. And nearly the whole 25% would purchase the red car.
White is a "dull" color as far as human reaction but seems to be very acceptable to those who react at all.
Red invokes emotion from nearly everyone but is deemed "aggressive". But it seems if you like it, you love it.
Black is a universally appealing color and even people who don't buy it, will agree it has appeal. It acts as the base from which people choose color. Other colors are mentally compared to black. You will notice that when disscussing color, people will say they like or don't like red, white, blue, yellow or any of the other colors. They can agree that a particular object is pretty or not based purely on the color.
Black on the other hand, as demonstrated by the original post, is disgarded based on many other factors. People seem to "talk themselves out of" black.
You can't tell your own bike at a bar, too many out there, too hard to keep clean, shows all the scratches, etc. are lines you hear to justify not buying black.
We all have our reasons for what we like or don't like. It makes the world go 'round.
I will say ... "nothing, but nothing looks better than black and chrome when clean, and nothing, but nothing looks worse than black and chrome when its dirty."

A more intersting subject than may meet the eyes.
