I have an ' 08 Ultra Classic and frequently the fuel gage won't move from empty until maybe five minutes after starting my ride. Then it moves up to the correct reading. Is this normal?
inaccurate readings are normal i've found, but to have it not move off of E for five minutes after startup seems abnormal, i'd have that looked at myself.
I am having the same problem, so there must be an issue with the '08 fuel gauge. Mine intermittantly doesnt move off empty - then if I shut off the ignition and restart it moves. Try cycling the ignition key and let me know if that gets it moving.
I have gone over the schematics - there is not much to the circuit, there is a float sensor in the tank and the output from this sensor also goes to the electronic fuel remaining display in your speedo. The groundto the sensor comes from the ground screw just in front ofthe battery. Is the miles remaining feature working properly at the same time that your gauge is not working? I havent been able to prove that out yet.

Don't know if this helps or not but my softail has always been slow to creep up to the correct reading from empty when turning the key on. Always been reliable though. First thing I noticed when I sat on the bike when I picked it up. Asked the sales guy and he said they are slow motion, not like a car. Ron
my 08 gauge is also slow and dealer said that its a matter of the float and bike angle which I think is just an bad excuse. They are pulling the float and taking a look at it next week.
Bull crap - these are very simple circuits (float provides a certain resistance at a certain gas level - that resistance is directly attached to the guage). Sounds to me like the guage or the float assembly itself is bad. Get them to fix under warranty.
