Yes I searched for this question already, so if this has been answered my forum search skills suck..
I recently had the HD cruise kit installed on my 05 RC Custom, when I 'set' the speed it seems to always drop back by 2 MPH.. So if I set it at 65, release the throttle, the bike drops back to 63..
Is this normal? The dealer who installed it claims it is.. If thats the case I'll just need to remember to be going 2MPH faster when I set it.
Do you have a car?
Does your car stick at the EXACT point at wich you set the cruise control?
Ive never seen one do it.
Would not be suprised if the Motorcycle cruise control is the same.
G'day cbchev68, just recently fitted the cruise control to my '06 Street Glide. When I set the cruise speed there is a slight hesitation where it drops in speedfor a second orso then accelerates to what I wanted.
Kind of sorta drops...what's happening is your releasing your throttle before the actuator motor gets to the final point it needs to hold your current speed. Mine does the same thing. What I do is when I set the Cruise on, I hold my hand at the same throttle position for an extra few seconds and then it keeps my current speed.
This is the cruise control cable lash initialization procedure that should have been done when the dealer installed the cruise, if you have a pre-08 bike:
If it wasn't done or done properly, it might account for what you are experiencing. I hold the throttle steady and use my left hand to set the cruise, and experience no change in speed doing so.
I heard the same thing from the dealer and mine would drop 5 mph when set. I did the cable lash initialization and now where ever I set it, it stays!!! And the procedure to set it up correctly is really easy!

My car sticks at the exact point at which I set it. Why wouldn't it? The technology to do so has been there for years. Especially with tbw there is no reason not to be precise.
I have the same issue on the bike. I will try the procedure to set the cable lash.
