Default Melted a Micro Fibre

Any suggestions on getting a melted Micro Fibre cloth off of a heat shield. The rag fell off my tank and melted (baked) onto my heat shield. Have tried Goo-B-Gone, nail polish remover without any success. Hopefully someone can offer up the magic solution? Or is just a case of buying a new heat shield from V&H?

Good luck! I did the exact same thing on my brand new Pro Pipe, first day! I had no luck with any cleaners, nothing worked. I finally resorted to 0000 steel wool and a lot of WD40. It came off but "dulled" the chrome a bit in that spot. I'm probably the only one that will ever notice it but it bothers me.

Blue Magic paste metal polish worked for me after my micro fiber incident.

I don't know what the fiber is made of, but here's something that might work. If the shield is small enough to put into a freezer it might pop off since the shield will contract at a different rate then the fiber. If you have connections to liquid nitrogen that would be the ultimate, have them pour some on the shield.
Hey I don't know if it'll work but give it a shot before you spend the bucks.

Get the pipe warm cover all painted surfaces and use oven off cleaner. Make sure you do not get it on any paint, it will stain the paint.

I would try oven cleaner first. It's supposed to work great for rubber boot burns on pipes, so it just might work for the micro fiber cloth. Good luck. What did you say when you first saw it and how many beers did it take?

I own a detailshop just outside Chicago, my $.02 suggestion is the above mentioned polish first or you can always restort to a solvent like thinner or prep-sol and emulsify it without friction. MF towels are mostly 70-80%polyester and 20-30%polyamide ,you need to emulsify it and not get it on the painted surfaces of the engine, I'd suggest using tin foil as a makeshift sheild.. Steel wool should only be used in the last case hopes.

I've always used EASY OFF oven cleaner. Make sure you cover everything before you spray it on. Let it sit overnight, and then spray it off (Water). Works for everything I've gotten on my exhaust. Tin foil is a good cover on the frame and engine, and it doesn't absorb through. You can mold it to make sure everything is covered. Hope this helps. CCRyder
PS...I wouldn't go with the steel wool until you're ready to throw them away. After you're done, that's what you'll be doing. Or everytime you look at them you'll get pissed! And then you'll throw them away. How do I know this? Yea, been there, done that [:@]

Polish is only a series of finer scratches to blend a larger, more noticeable one. You do need to try to get as much off as possible. I'm not sure if Acrysol would really be effective, the freeze method is the most logical if you can get it cold enough. Got a bait shop or similar nearby to get a big hunk of dry ice? Container large enough for the heat shield and ice?

Regardless of what the others are saying you can use a fine steel wool, but spray the **** out of the steel wool with liquid wax and then use it. It works and hasn't scratched my chrome. I did the exact same thing about a year ago. I went through all kind of stupid stuff trying to get it off of my pipes and one day a service tech at the dealer showed me the steel wool and wax trick... it works like a charm.

Good luck
