I read a few of the old post and there wasn't much about the factory unit. I like the fact that it's all inone unit and weather proof. Any pros or cons other than the cost factor. Can you see all
functions for music selections etc ? Meaning since the factory radio only has 6 bottons?Thank you in advance.
got it on mine.. the 6 buttons allow you 6 preset stations... just like most radios.. you manually tune to the station, hold in one of the buttons, and it stores the station (channel)
the up and down radio buttons allow you to go up or down by channel from the channel number the button has
the artist name and song name appear in the window.
antenna is installed inside the fairing on the left side, out of sight.
once the module and harness are installed, the radio automatically recognizes XM, so when you use the thumb seclector, you jump thru AM, FM, CD, Weather, XM, and Aux
had it for 2 yrs, with no problems, have ridden from Maine to Fl and got reception all the way.. . also added the Sirius on mine on the handlebar, since I have it in the truck.
there's a merger going on between XM and Sirius, and you will be able to use either radio later this year. I'll be able to pick and choose which channels from which service I like, then get rid of the handlbar mount.
If you're in the far north, you might have some reception problems, since XM only has 2 Sat and Sirius has 3, but again, this should be resolved by the end of the year
I had the factory unit installed beofre I picked the bike up. It has performed flawlessly for me. There are actually 10 presets, Button 6 takes you to the second set of presets, plus you can scroll through with the RHthumb switch up or down channel by channel. I have traveled from SC to NM and NM to CA with no reception issues. It is a bit more expensive than an external unit, but it operates seamlessly and it is waterproof and invisible to the casual hoodlum looking for a ****** and grab.
Agree with what has been written so far. I really like the controls integrated with the rest of the sound system.
However, I think there is more features on here also. I hit a button yesterday and brought up a window that looked like I could categorize the stations. I've got to reseach this one.
I added it to my 06 before a trip to San Diego. Was very happy with the install as it fit seamlessly. Performed great on the trip west from Central Wisconsin. It does have 10 presets with button 6 giving 5 more. The display only shows one line except at the beginning of a song.
Back in wisconsin, on some of the country roads with trees I do lose the signal. The antenna is somewhat small and a different xm I have has a much larger antenna which would still fit under the farring. Someday I may make a swap

RE: Harley XM
I have the remote version that I plug into my aux jack. I also use my remote XM unit in my boat. On the HD I placed the XM unit in one of those HD leather pouches that are mounted behind the windshield, I have a SG so I have 2 small pouches, one holds the unit the other holds the cables including the antenna. It works for me. Yea the combined unit sounds like a good idea, except I have two many toys (I will not repeat that when the wife is around ) I like the idea of moving it around from boat to HD...now I am looking at the home adapter and the Bose unit to plug the aux wire into for shop / garageand office XM listening.I will admit if you one that is constantly changing stations, this is probably not the way to go as to aquire the next station you have to unvelcro the bag to acess the XM unit then scroll or push the button for selected presets. I dont want gadgets hanging allover my bar , so thats why I didnt mount it, thepouches look clean.I personally have 12 presets available in my truck and have 2 used... Its not like FM where you may flip stations because they are on some 10 commercials in a row program then play 2 songs back to 10 commercials. Set it on XM 14 and ride .
Hmm father's day is around the corner, the perfect excuse to buy myself one. We just did a install on a street glide with Nav/XM/DVD and a touch screen. I like the way everything is on the screen and you can see it all, as far as artist and type of music etc. I was concerned how the display willl work on the factory set up.
I went Super Cheap... Installed the XM sportcaster - Cost after rebate $0.00 - Ran the antenna to the top of the radio housing - it has a built-in FM Modulator... Works GREAT!!!
i have a sirius handle bar unit and it cuts in and out alot kinda disappointed i guess. It works great some times others not to good...may one day try the harley unit but man it is costly
