I'm changing out my Dual Beam on my 05 Ultra. I picked up a new HID Headlamp Kit for FLHR, 68043-04. The HID for the Ultra is 68094-06A.
Is this a major difference? I can see the installation is similar but should I stop before I get started and sell this on Ebay and buty the correct Kit?
Call the dealer, but I don't think it'll work. Disclaimer: I'm uninformed on this, but I have tried to use parts that "seemed" like they should work. RK's have an entirely different light set up...if you've already got it apart, plug it in, try it before you put it back together. I would worry about temps and damaging the housing of the light and fairing as well.
Ok if you did get the kit for the Ultra, its a lot different then the RK kit. Which I did not realize until installing it. I had to build a new power wiring harness and go back to the dealer and get the bracket that supports the ballest on the head lamp ring.
You don't want to use that other kit unless your capable of wiring and soldering using heat shrink and changing the existing circuit that is provided.
Don't even ask why I didn't take it back. For starters have been screwed with returns and restock fee's from the parts guy ording the wrong stuff to start with. (one of those things that you didnt' think could happen) and second off, I didn't think that one was made for the RK since that last episode I just got over with the dude at the parts counter! So I wanted the light on my RK and made it work.
I don't recommend you use it unless your putting in on an Ultra or a EG or even a SG.
I have the Road King HID with the mount for the bracket. I don't have a problem with soldering but this looks pretty straight forward. Power and ground near the battery, hide the relay somewhere near and the balast and lamp wiring in my fairing. Not sure what circuitry needs changing.
Sounds like you got the Ultra 68094-06A kit. Any chance you could scan the instructions and email to me?
I did get the Ultra Kit. Your should be fine with the Kit for the RK. I did change the right hand switch control pin connections, in that I didn't follow the directions because I did not want to remove the necell and take off my handle bars to get to that connector to remove a pin and replace another. I sort of modified another connector and to keep from removing the other above mentioned items. It still functions the same as what the H-D designe, I just installed it totally differently. You shouldn't have to solder if you have the RK kit either. Your power comes from the ignition switch on the gas tank too. That was what I had to solder a harness for since nothing in that Ultra Kit was going to reach that far.
I hate it when these parts guys give you the wrong thing. Trouble is I bought this out of state last fall so taking it back is not an option. I hit a deer last summer and have been doing some repair and major upgrades this winter. Almost finished and the last thing was to put in the Headlight Kit, mount and wire the Quest II GPS, then mount the fairing, program the SERT and run it in for a Dyno and have a tuner adjust the SERT. ...and ride, ride, ride!
