08 Road King just turned over 2000 miles. Not a sound up until now. There is a noise coming from the primary that sounds like loose chain slap. Not to bad cold but when it is hot the sound gets louder. Changing gears or rolling on and off the throttle sounds like there is about three too many links in the primary. Took it the dealer and was there when they pulled the primary cover and everything look good. the chain was tight and the clutch and comp. sprocket looked good. They kept it for two weeks and supposedly went through it and found nothing. They said it is probably normal. Going to pick it up Friday. I just don't want to be left stranded on the road when it gernades. Just wondering if anyone else has had this kind of problem, and if so the cause. I guess I'll just have to take back to them in pieces so they can find the problem

I had a friend with the same problem, dealer couldn't find anything, turned out to be the cover makeing the noise. Took it off and the noise went away. That might just be a one time thing though. It's just a thought.
I have the same sound coming from mine. I have an 07 ULTRA.
If you look for my last post today titled "need help with compensator torque"
Mine does it only when its warmed up as well....same feeling as if the chain is to slack and when you get on and off the throttle quickly it sounds like the chain is loose.
I want to check my tensioner and compensator nut as well.
I'm going to put in the new shim that harley came up with to go under the nut.
Keep me posted as to what you find.
No aftermarket kury covers. all stock in primary area. I have rode, raced, and wrenched on bikes for around forty years, so I know this is not a normal sound. About the only thing that could cause this slack chain sound would be the comp. sprocket. I told them to check it but probably in one ear and out the other. Its under warranty so I guess dropping the hammer at five grand should find the problem. Looks like they would know what is wrong, sounds like I,m not the only one having this problem. I'll let everyone know what I find out
