We are leaving from Louisiana Friday our trip. We plan on entering Canada at Sault Ste. Marie and staying a couple of days and then entering the US at Niagra Falls. What do we need in the way of paperwork etc. to enter and leave Canada?
Thanks,

Passport is the best, so if you have one use it.
 \\;
If you don't have a passport then you will need a government issued photo ID such as a drivers license along with proof of citizenship such as your birth certificate.

Here is link with all the facts: \\; http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc...liant_document
A passport or drivers license/birth cert will also help getting back into the USA. Verbal declarations are no longer
any good! See the link mattman22022 provided!

My sons and I traveled to Nova Scotia last year. Had no trouble getting off the ferry from Maine to Nova Scotia because they are so busy. We attempted to ride around rain so we rode back into Maine and then attempted to go back into Canada and that's where our problem began. We were stopped and my son was not allowed in Canada because of a DUI in 1993. It was on their computers. They told him "for a $ 1000 Rehabilitation Fee" he would be allowed in. Needless to say none of us went in and had to return home thru the US.
The border crossing guard as we turned around to reenter Maine stated most of the time they never check anyone then suddenly they will and in this case it was us. So be sure you have a clean record or you may not be allowed in.
Thanks for the info. This will be our first trip to Canada and we wanted to do it right. We are leaving for a 14+ day trip that will take us from Louisiana, north to Wisconsin (going around the flooded Illlinois and Iowa areas) around the Great Lakes to Niagra Falls then off to Washington D.C. for a few days. We will then ride back down the Blue Ridge Parkway, doing the "Dragon" and Cherola Skyway before heading back to Louisiana.
Thanks for the help,
Zapps

 \\;BE SURE to check with your insurance agent and get a \\;copy of your insurance that states that it's good in Canada. If you don't have canadian insurance coverage, they may give you the boot.
