I currently have 63,000 miles on my 05 ultra without ever having the cam bearings replaced. \\; Bike Still runs excellent. \\; How many miles has anyone got without changing the cams or without having the motor rebuilt?
The rear gasket started leaking on the real cyclinder and i had it replaced. \\; The shifter shaft seal has been replaced twice. \\; I had the cam bearings and cam chain tensioners checked at 47,000 miles and they looked brand new.
That's amazing. \\; If the tensioners were last checked at 47 and now ya got 63 I'd be checking them again. \\; You usually don't see that high mileage on a set of tensioners without them torpedoing and taking something out with them.

not like "checking" the tensioners is an easy job - why didn't you just replace them when you "checked" them? \\; \\;Seriously - go thru the trouble of checking them...... \\; They do last longer with Synthetic oil. \\; I've replace mine twice (25,000 and 53,000) and neither time they needed replacing but since I was in there might as well.....
HD cured the cam bearing problem by 2000. \\; Just the tensioners that are an issue until 07. \\; \\;. \\;
I made 95,000 on the original tensioners but replaced the cam plate,tensioners and also replaced the cams with stock takeoffs due to wear but still use the original inner cam bearings. The engine is now approaching 119,000 miles and still carries well over 35 psi of oil press. The top end is starting to get a little noisy but still runs great.[sm=biker2.gif]
Actually , all TC engines built before Dec. 14th, 1999 had the defective bearings.
Since the 2000 model year bikes came out in July 99' , about half the 2000 bikes were or will be affected as the mileage on them increases and the problem surfaces.
