Really enjoying the new 08 Ultra Classic. From day one been very disappointed with a "snapping" or "crackling" in both HD headsets when volume is turned up enough to hear radio or CD at cruising speed. Noise is worse in left speaker. At 1000 mile check asked dealer about it and they said it was normal. NORMAL? Surely you can tell me they are wrong and that my sound system has an issue....can't you? What should I do?

Mine has no popping sound. It works fantastic. Much better than my 2001 GoldWing. Tell the dealer they are full of bull.

It's Normal that HD says it's Normal.
If I were you I would go back and ask them again. Bring a pocket recorder with you and record the whole conversation, ask them to put it in writing that it's normal. If they refuse tell them that you recorded the conversation and your going to the better business bureau and the attorney generals office with your problem.
I hate it when I have to threaten someones business, but sometimes that all they understand.

First, welcome to the forum.

If it's possible, try another headset that's known to be good.

If that is not possible, begin working back from the headsets to the radio...maybe a wiring issue.

But as others have suggested, the sound system on the '08 is quite good and, like the others, my "issue" headset seems to work...not a high-quality unit but does not produce the cracks and pops you're getting.

My wife uses the HD headset in her helmet and has had no complaints. I have 2 J&amp\\;M headsets for me, one in a full-face modular helmet and one in a 3/4 helmet and both work great.

 

If you know someone that has the same type...swap the cords..the cords sometimes get strained at the connector....

I found the headsets that come with the Ultras are just not very good.&nbsp\\; I believe they are made by J&amp\\;M but not sure.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; I went with the J&amp\\;M Elite series headset.&nbsp\\; They are expensive but the sound quality is day and night compared to the stock set.&nbsp\\;

I have a 1999 Ultra Classic. Just bought a set of head sets off ebay. They work with 1/2 helmets. Harley doesn't make any for half helmets. Mine work great, no popping. Plus they cost about half what Harley wants.
