I picked up a detachable Tour pack for my 05 Road King on E-Bay. I picked up the front docking points from the stealer (I already had the rear docking points on the bike) When I tried to put it on, the front of the rack \\;by the front docking points were hitting a chrome rail under/by the rear pillion. Did anyone else experience this? Remedy? Are there different size racks for different years?
The racks will all fit the King. \\; But there are four separate docking points that can be put on the Tourers. \\; Even though it only takes two (on each side) for the TP, make sure you have the right two for the detachable tour pak. \\; I just put the exact setup on my Road King and it works fine. \\; But I had all four of the docking points already on when I started. \\; That might be your problem. \\; Hope this helps. \\; CCRyder
I cant quite picture in my head what's hitting what. Can you be a bit more descriptive?
One question, did you replace the rear seat screw with a different one (such as the knurled one) by chance? If you put on one thats taller than the stock one, the front of the rack can hang up on it when putting it on and off. Its a VERY close fit.
Are you sure you go the right bracket? The older ones are mostly tubular, the one for your bike should look like this:
Are you trying to use one of the docking points for a passenger backrest? \\; I just installed mine a few weeks back and I thought the parts counter guy said it would work on the front docking station for the passenger backrest but it won't the spacing different. \\; Pictures would help us help you also
Thanx for your input, they may have sold me the wrong front docking points. The points don't seem \\;want to work, the catch-slots should be \\;away from the bike \\;further. \\; \\;I'll do a little more work on them when I get a chance
Didn't mean to scare anyone with my typo. LOL The front docking point requires a 3/8" spacer, \\;which wasn't in the package. all better now, thanx for the input
