Four of us that ride together here in the Chicago area all just bought new 08's. We all shopped around and each got a deal on the repsective bike we were looking for.
Myself and another guy bought Road King Classic, mine White and Black Pearl the other 105 Ann, we each got 2K off \\;sticker at 2 different dealers.
 \\;
1 guy bought a Road Glide, got $1500 off sticker, the other guy bought a SE Road King and got $2K off sticker.

There are several dealers in our area of Nothern IL and several dealers in Southern WI that will take care of title, Liscense, and taxes, it's pretty competitive here and most dealers seem to have pretty good inventory levels.
 \\;
 \\;
A couple of the dealers we visited had no stock so no deal, but the bigger dealers were happy to deal.
 \\; \\; \\; This has been my first HD after years of metrics and I am used to wheelin and dealin. Bought my 08 Ultra about 6-7 weeks ago and when I asked for the bottom line the guy looked at me like I was speaking in a foreign language. He said we only sell at retail. Checked with some of my other local dealers and that seemed to be the norm. Wanted to deal locally and went back, told them so and then negotiated some accessories ($900) worth thrown in with the purchase.
If you can't get anything off of the bike, go for the accessories. It is a win win. I picked the items that were on my must have list and they agreed. Just a thought.
In my area (PA) they will not discount the CVO models. My good friend offered (seriously) to buy 2 and they still would not budge one dime off of retial.

I'm in the KC area and I'm just starting the search for a bagger after not having a Harley for over 10 years. \\; Sold my last one back when the list plus mentality was running full steam. \\; Since then I've had a number of bikes but have got the itch for another HD and the fact that some of the dealers are now willing to sell at or below sticker has my attention. \\; Given that the dealer release show for the 2009's is now under a month away I'm thinking that some of these dealers in this part of the world are going to want to move some bikes. \\; Thanks for the info regarding the discounts.
Spoke to my dealer yesterday and they said they would be lucky to still have bikes on the floor before the 09's came in. Asking MSRP, no deals. Guess it depends on what part of the country you live in too. Here in Texas things must be doing well.
supply and demand.... if a store has supply, and little demand... expect a deal
stores with high demand, and little supply... expect no deals...
on occasion, you'll find a dealer who \\; likes to keep his customers happy.... and RETURNING, I call those \\; SMART
Wish my dealer went to those extremes to keep customers. I have purchased 2 bikes there in the last 4 years. I have all but begged and pleaded with them for some sort of customer loyalty discount program on parts, gear and accessories - but nada. And they wonder why I order stuff online from a HD dealer out East and I live on the West coast. Gee...
I have a great sales person but management really doesn't seem to do anything to help him keep loyal customers. I'm all about a company making a profit, hiring good people and providing good service. Would be nice if they appreciated customers who try to bring them business.
I went into 5 different dealerships with a certified check, and only one fought for the business. \\; The others were like, "yeah thats nice, we only sell at MSRP or MSRP +." \\; And the funny part is that they were serious. \\; I just laughed and walked out. \\; I knew that there was a dealership that would take my offer, I wasnt that far off. \\; One dealership actually told me, "we prefer when people finance, so your check is no good here!" \\; That really frosted me, the best part is I still go into these dealerships that didnt want my money and they still have the same bikes that they had over 2 months ago. \\; I always make sure to ask the guy if they are selling bikes, he always say yes, but I know thats a bunch of BS because the shop is full and full of the same bikes!!! \\;
 \\; Shop around, get a price in your head and hit every dealership in your area, before you give up! \\;
 \\;
 \\; Good luck on your purchase! \\;

I never understood the idea of "dealership loyalty". Far as I'm concerned, the dealer has to EARN my loyalty first.
 \\;
Offer me a good deal - or at least be willing to make a deal! - follow up afterwards, offer incentives to return or a good deal on a trade-in. Quit acting like you're doing me a favor by selling me \\;a bike on your floor. In this day and age of internet retailing, I can find the bike I'm looking for in any one of a thousand places, I know exactly what you paid for it and how much of a profit you're making, so stop trying to bullsh*t me.
 \\;
Then I'll be a loyal customer. Just because they're located in my hometown doesn't mean sheeyt to me...maybe I'll buy a shirt from them, but a bike?
Legacy HD in Effingham, IL is full of 08 bikes right now. They are having a party this coming Saturday with live bands, food, drinks and stunt riders. It is supposed to be a huge sale day. I have no doubt they are trying to figure out how to sell some of these 08's before the 09's start rolling in. Too bad I already have a new one........
