I will be significanly over the 1600 km's when I am finally able to get into see the dealer. \\; They are booking 3 weeks out. \\; What should I do? \\; I will be will over 3000k over by the time the appointment comes around. \\; So should I do the service myself and if so waht do i need to do? \\; Or should I just wait and do nothing until I get back from my trip and go to the appiointment? \\; I think by the time I get back it will be ready for the second scheduled service.
Looking for direction here as I do not want to void my warranty.
yes do it yourself just follow the first service in your manual as a guide not much more than changing all thee oils and checking critical fasteners which means go over the bike and look for loose bolts keep receipts and your good to go
Yes... You can do it. The service manual and the oils will cost you a little over $100.00 TOTAL!!
 \\;
The dealer service will cost you $300.00 - 350.00.
 \\;
Keep your reciepts to show your service dates.
 \\;
If you are nervous about doing it... There might be someone on the HD Forum nearby that is willing to take an hour or two to walk you through it.
I'd do it myself if I were you. I had the same thing come up with my 1000 mile service and the dealer told me if I went too far over they would probably void my warranty. Could have been a bunch of B.S. to get my cash but I didn't want to take the chance.
Buy the manual and do it yourself..it's not hard. The hardest thing you will have to do it adjust the clutch but even that only takes 5 minutes and is not hard at all. If you can use the Windows operating system, you can service your own bike.
GET 6 \\; QTS \\; OF ANY \\; GOOD \\; SYNTH OIL.. \\;(LIKE MOBIL 1) FROM ANY AUTO \\; SUPPLY OR WAL MART \\; KM .. ANY MART \\;  \\; \\; \\;AND GET A FRAM 6022 \\; FILTER FROM SAME \\;.. \\;
+ \\; \\;  \\;DO IT \\; URSELF.
END OF \\; STORY
THEY CANNOT VOID THE WARRANTY!
PS: THAT \\; 1000 \\; MILE SERVICE IS \\; B.S.
MANY YEAR \\; MANY \\; HOGS... \\; MANY! \\;
 \\;
Buy the BOOK and do it yourself if nothing else atleast the OILS and Filter (Think Syn like Amsoil or Mobil 1). Then finish the rest on your return
 \\;
I agree, do the fluids yourself and the rest can wait until you get back. \\; Plus, cut the fluid changes out and those scheduled services are a lot easier to swallow, save some money!
