I'm sure that "it's normal" will be what I hear from the dealer. It is not bearing noise...at least not from the wheels. I am going out for a little ride without the radio and try some different surfaces to see if it changes the sound...try to maybe eliminate the tires ...I'll advise later...
ORIGINAL: Woodchuck

I had a whine in the front wheel of my '89 EGC when leaning and my '07 does the same thing.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; It sounds like wheel bearings loading up and my '89 would do it regardless of the bearings just being repacked or if they had a lot of miles on the grease job (new ones are sealed). I believe it's the bearings taking a thrust loading in the corners that they don't otherwise have. I also think it's more audible on a Classic than an Ultra because there are no lowers to muffle the sound. I'll let the guy at the service desk tell you that it's normal for an HD though.

I have a hard time believing its the tire especially after 15k miles, but if you are doing freeway only you have developed "chicken strips", meaning a wear pattern down the center. It could then be the **** still on the side of the tire making noise when you lean, try cutting them off and see if the noise goes away. I have 16k on my RG and the only noise I ever had was due to my demon bell being too low and dragging on turns. Good luck.

Mine does the exact same thing.&nbsp\\; I took it to the dealer and they said that rotors, especially chrome ones, warp a little and that causes the whine.&nbsp\\; I think they are full of crap, because if I apply the brakes, its doesn't stop.&nbsp\\; I have a brand new front tire and after checking wheel bearings and everything else am convinced its the tire.&nbsp\\; I guess if will go away with miles, but who knows. &nbsp\\;

When I first got my 05 (used 20K miles) it would make a buzz type noise when I leaned and I could feel it in the bars. Now, its doing it going straight and it is readily audible over 40 mph. It does not&nbsp\\;change pitch when I pull in the clutch and I only hear it when moving - its either gotta be the bearings, belt or tires. I plan on taking it to the dealer (under warranty) and let them track it down. Its only getting worse and I've got a 1200 mile trip coming up in August.

Well, after a 40 or so mile ride...no noise. Come to think of it, I heard the noise when there were two of us on the bike. My wife adds about 150 pounds(don't tell her I told you) and maybe the tension on the belt has something to do with it. Only thing is, it only whines when it's leaned over in a turn. I ain't gonna worry about it too much unless it gets worse...

Default 2009 FLHR whining in the front

Well my tires are ready for replacement so I don't think what I am hearing is the tires. It diffinitly sounds like a bearing noise and not a road noise fromt the teads, of which there isn't much left. I pull in the clutch, it doesnt go away. I hear it on any degree of leaning. Straight up....nothing..
When I bring in the bike for the the tire mounting I will have the service dept check the noise out.
I'll let you guys know what they say.

Temperature can effect it too. I don't hear it at first then as the tire gets hotter, it gets louder.

Perhaps it is the compensator?
