Speedometer conversion for 21" wheels?
To all the big brains out thereI have a speedo question for you.
 \\;
Right now I am getting about 130 to a tank and I am putting in about 4.8gal per fill-up. This equals just under 28mpg (indicated)
This Sux. (I have more words for it too). I have a roadtrip upcoming and I am doing whatever I can to get my gas mileage up as I prefer to drink my beer not on the side of the road while I wait for \\;someone to bring me gas. \\;
 \\;
I am running basic Stage 1 setup (V&\\;H true duals, Samson Exhaust, SE air cleaner, PC-III USB).
I have already used a variety of canned maps, and I am currently using a canned hi-mpg map I got courtesy of Jamie at FuelMoto (cannot say enough about the great prices and customer service/support at FuelMoto).
 \\;
Where does the speedo pick up the speed? Is it the front \\;or rear wheel? In the transmission?
I know I can look into "The Big White Book of \\;Fun" \\;but I thought I would ask you all first.
 \\;
I am hoping my speedo is off due to my wheels, but you never know ... The bike runs healthy, and I am not too obnoxious \\;with the throttle \\;(I swear). \\;
 \\;
My theory is that it is off d/t the larger wheel diameter, but that, my friends, is just a hopeful theory.
I have 120/70/21 front tire \\;and a 150/70/18 rear tire on a 2004 EG standard. \\;
 \\;
Anybody have any idea how I can get my speedo to convert to the new tire diameter?
 \\;
If that cannot be done, does anybody have any idea how I can figure out how much slower my wheel turns so I can do the big-brainded conversion to estimate my tank-to-tank range?
 \\;
 \\;
Thanks

So I called Metzler yesterday to get tire diameters.
 \\;
The guy about fell over telling me how dangerous it is to ride a 21" on a bagger and that 'metzler is not liable' ...
Seriously, for at least 15 minutes I heard his diatribe how the engineers have not tested it and they would not be responsible.
 \\;
All I wanted to know was,
 \\;
What is the tire diameter.
 \\;
So. Finally,
 \\;
16" stock is 25.87" in overall height.
 \\;
21/120/70 is 27.8" overall height
 \\;
18" 150/70 is 26.26" overall height.
 \\;
Speedo is in the transmission so the rear tire is the conversion to use.
 \\;
Seems my mileage sux.
 \\;
back to the map.
