1996 Road Kind
I am buying a 1996 Road King with 49K miles, on it. I was told to replace the lifters and push rods, these fail often, the bike, starts right up, and there are no clunks or ticks. when is it time to chance out these, or what are the sighns and symtoms, Thanks for your help, My weed eater(Honda)is gone for ever!!!!
never heard tell of what you are saying about lifters and push rods.

Hyperhawk...........is that the right Thunderheader for your bike? It looks like the Softtail version with that short muffler on it.

Bad lifters will have a loud ticking noise.Push rods dont go bad unless they get bent,then you have other issues.

You can get them on Ebay or in the classified sections pretty cheap, just have to check often as when they appear people grab them quickly.

Never heard of lift or pushrod problems with a '96 EVO engine. You do need to change out the caged cam bearing for a Torrington if that hasn't been done.

cam bearing for a Torrington bearing.
A friend of mine has a 1997 Road King EVO, after 20K
the cam bearing gave out ,spreading metal debris through
the engine and oilpump.
The engine had to be taken apart, cylinders were honed
new oversized pistons and new (S&S) oilpump installed.
So please change the cam bearing, and while your at it
considder installing an Andrews cam.
