I had a '96 FLHRI Road King, and never had any problems at all with the motor.........and when I sold it, it had around 45000 miles.

Hyperhawk...........is that the right Thunderheader for your bike? It looks like the Softtail version with that short muffler on it.

Never heard of lift or pushrod problems with a '96 EVO engine. You do need to change out the caged cam bearing for a Torrington if that hasn't been done.

If the engine sounds quiet, leave it alone except for servicing.
Bad lifters will have a loud ticking noise.Push rods dont go bad unless they get bent, then you have other issues.

The only way to "fix" it would be to put the touring version on there. That would mean buying a whole new exhaust system since the head pipes are different and the muffler is longer.

You can get them on Ebay or in the classified sections pretty cheap, just have to check often as when they appear people grab them quickly.

I agree with Bill, change out the
cam bearing for a Torrington bearing.
A friend of mine has a 1997 Road King EVO, after 20K
the cam bearing gave out ,spreading metal debris through
the engine and oilpump.
The engine had to be taken apart, cylinders were honed
new oversized pistons and new (S&S) oilpump installed.
So please change the cam bearing, and while your at it
considder installing an Andrews cam.
