Default Update...Should I do the extra engine work?

My 06 Ultra is using one quart of oil every thousand miles. I dropped it at the dealer today for what is expected to be replacement of the valve stem seals. I suppose it could be rings too.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
The GM and her husband(a tech)&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;are my Sturgis riding partners, so I trust them.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
He suggested I upgrade my motor to 1550. He said my only cost will be the pistons and machining of the cylinders, but didn't say how much that might be. Everything else, including even gaskets, will be covered under warranty.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
This bike is completely stock. Is it worth it for me to upgrade the motor?
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
Thanks for all your opinions.....................
&nbsp\\;
UPDATE............................
&nbsp\\;
The tech called me this morning. He can't find anything wrong. Everything looks absolutly perfect. He has no explanation for the oil consumption.
If I recall his explanations correctly..............................
He did the compression leak down test, and then physically looked at the valve guide seats. They were clean, and if were leaking, should have some carbon deposit.
He looked at the piston tops also. They were carbon coated, and would be oil washed clean if oil was getting past the rings.
The air filter was clean also. The spark plugs looked perfect.
&nbsp\\;
He said he can't do anything more, cause he has to be able to show the warranty rep why he should do work, and he can't come up with one single reason to do any work at all.
&nbsp\\;
He couldn't find any trace of any leaking either.
&nbsp\\;
His only suggestion was to try a different type of oil. Thats a long shot for sure, but something to try at least. I use Mobil 1 synthetic 15W50 and justed changed it 100 miles ago. I might try amsoil next time due.
&nbsp\\;
Anyone have any ideas.........................................

I would/did. Machining the barrels won't be expensive. Pistons are not that bad either if I remember correctly.

Absolutely do it!&nbsp\\; My RK has 63,000 and it's not using a 1/2 qt in 2500 unless I'm really engine braking on the twisties a lot.&nbsp\\; But, I'd say go for it.&nbsp\\; The whole thing if all you're paying for is pistons, rings, and boring will be less than $350-$400 tops.&nbsp\\; Very well worth it.&nbsp\\; Let us know how it turns out.&nbsp\\; CCRyder

Oh, and consider yourself damn lucky that you've got a dealer that will do that for you.&nbsp\\; They're few and far between.&nbsp\\; Trust me on that one! &nbsp\\;

Go for it, no substitute for cubic inches, and you wont be able to do that cheap again.&nbsp\\;

In a heartbeat.&nbsp\\; I have 25,000 plus on mine and it don't use a drop. Must be lucky on that one. I put the oil level at the high mark when I change it and 5,000 miles later it's still there.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; How many miles do you have on it now???&nbsp\\; May need to look at the cam shoes too.

SIZE DOES MATTER! Do it, because you are getting it dirt cheap.

The 06 ultra has 24,650 miles. The excessive oil consumption started around 20,000 miles&nbsp\\;
