Will the adjustable back rest give me the lower back support , and
not push me forward on the seat? Looking for a back rest that I can
kind of lean back into, and not have it jammed into my lower back.
I'am running a stock FLHRI seat , that was gutted and redone.
Thanks
I've got the standard backrest with the stock pillow-look seat ( '02 FLHT ). The bracket tilts at a rearward angle so putting it in the highest position also moves it the furthest rearward. With the cushion in the highest position, it makes a lump in the center of the seat pocket that pushes me forward about an inch. That repositioning put me on a hump in the seat pan that makes me feel like I am sitting on a padded drain pipe. After several hundred miles trying to adjust the backrest pad tilt set screw, I gave up and put it in the saddlebag. I rechecked my installation to see if I had done something wrong, but no. it was correct. I am very disappointed that it isn't designed better than that. The bracket needs to be another inch rearward so it doesn't deform the rider seat pocket. It's not like this is an item they just came out with. So, I am looking to try a different seat or fabricate my own backrest bracket. BTW, I am 6'1", 225lbs.
I have the rider backrest #52914-98. It works great for me. It has multiple adjustment points. It took me a few rides/adjustments but once I got it right it works well for me.
I see you are running a rider backrest with a Sundowner seat. I am running a Sundowner Solo and was hoping someone could direct me to a backrest that would work with it.
i rode a RK for 3 years with a mustand seat #79102 w/backrest. very comfortable and will adjust up and down and back and foward. ive ridden alot of hiway miles with the mustang seat and backrest which will allow you to layback in a comfortable position with highway pegs.. i have a Ultra now with harley adjustable backrest and the HD backrest does not even come close to the mustang. http://www.mustangseats.com/hdcontst.htm
