Default HD 5K service

Anybody gotten a break on their 5000 mile service by doing their own oil change? My UG is about due for service and am going with Redline oils (which they won't stock), so thought I would do my own oil change and figured that might take a chunk out of the service cost. Or, maybe I could just put the oil containers in the side bag and have them use 'em. Just wondered what the experience is out there in Harleyland.

yep - get the service manual and do it yourself. if you're unsure, get the Fix My Hog DVD, then you can watch them do a step, then do it on your bike. I'm just about ready to do the 10K on mine

make sure you keep all your receipts for your oil and filter, and keep it with your owner's manual.

Just document it in your owners manual, there's a space for it.&nbsp\\; The shop manual will walk you through the steps.&nbsp\\; Changing all the fluids is a snap, and I like seeing what's coming out, and you get a chance to catch anything else that might be going funky or loosening up while you're there lookin, touchin, and working on it.&nbsp\\; Save some $$, and do your own.&nbsp\\; CCRyder

There is slightly more than just a fluid change due at 5k, right? Yeah, I thought so.

Amazing how all the talk of record&nbsp\\; and receipt keeping. Not necessary for any warranty work and what's to stop them from questioning what you've written in a book. Anyone can write anything down in a book, as well as the service tech writing down or checking off the list something he hasn't done! When was the last time you ever did that on a new car? So long as your fluids meet or exceed mfg. specks, you're good to go. Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with record keeping, this is their way to suck you into believing you have to only use and by their name brand product. They can not legally do that, plane and simple. Take care of your bike as you should and if you don't and break it, I wouldn't expect the mfg. to fix it at their expense.&nbsp\\;
