Default 20K Service

I'm due for the 20K service on my '05 Road Glide. I stopped at the dealer to see what they would charge. He shocked me by saying it would cost $831. The main reason for the inflated cost is draining and replacing the fork oil. Is that something that needs to be done? According to the owners manual, it looks like the manufactures recommendation is 50K. What do you guys think?

I think the dealer can easily afford to smoke crack, if he gets that kinda money for 20K service.&nbsp\\; [8D]

Shop manual doesn't mention fork oil at the 20K service.

Interesting this should come up today. My bike hit 20,000 and I was looking at the manual to see what was called for. My bike's a '00 FLHT and the manual calls for fork oil at 20,000.
I was curious what the dealer might charge for this service, as I probably won't have time to do it myself before leaving on a long trip. For $831 I guess I'll find time...

Noticed on the board at my HD dealer, the price for a 20K service is $503.&nbsp\\; Does'nt look so bad now!

I definitely agree with BIGSKYHD, the service manual and a little time is more than worth it.&nbsp\\; Besides, you can never know too much about your bike.&nbsp\\; Drrandall1 did have a good point if you do not want to do the service yourself, there are plenty of independent shops that will do a quality service considerably cheaper.&nbsp\\;

&nbsp\\;
You are correct about the service interval on the forks on your bike&nbsp\\;being 50K miles.&nbsp\\; If the dealer is suggesting something different, I'd ask him for a clear explanation for his reasons for the differencebeing skeptical, of course, of whatever explanation he gives.&nbsp\\; On older touring models, the service interval was 20K.&nbsp\\; Don't know when it changed as the service interval on my '04 EG is also 50K.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
Also, the service called for includes changing the seals, bushings, etc. in addition to changing the fork oil.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
You don't have to be a mechanical wizard to do the service work at 20K&nbsp\\;and you don't need a lot of expensive tools either.&nbsp\\; Buy the Service Manual and you'll see it's not difficult to do the service yourself.&nbsp\\; It is very satisfying to do it yourself if you have the time.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;
