 \\; I've got 2/32 on the front and 3/32 on the rear.
When do most of you change tires? \\; The tread bar looks like it's about 1/32. \\; Don't think I want to run that close.
i got about 12k from my dunlops i dont mess around with tires if they do not
 \\;
look right change them excuse the pun but alot rides on themsafe riding !!
I just had my 08 FLHR in for its 5k service last weekend. Rear tire is already down to 3/32". I'll be replacing both front and rear on mine in another two weeks (at which point I'll have close to 6k). I surely do wish I could get the tire mileage some of you other guys get!
(That's not a new problem for me. I've always gotten pretty crappy tire mileage on all my bikes. And yes, I check air pressure frequently (at least once a week)).
I \\;just got my 10,000 mi service on my \\; ultra and replaced both. My cousin has to replace a little more often since he and his wife outweigh us by about a hundred pounds. We both run dunlops on the ultras. I run metzlers on my heritage that I use for a solo ride and I get about 12000 out of those. Softer compound but again it a lighter bike and I'm the only one on it.
FWIW, when I took the Experienced Rider MSF course two years ago the instructors conducted a safety inspection of the students' bikes and used 2/32 or 3/32 as the minimum tread depth to "pass."
 \\;
If you don't have a tire depth gauge, use a penny. \\; If the tread touches Lincoln's head that's 2 or 3/32" and time for a new tire.
 \\;
I replace mine at 3/32". \\;
I change em when I hit the wear bars. \\; But to answer your question, I don't think alot of folks actually measure their tread depth.
 \\;
When they look like they need \\; replacin.......replace em.
 \\;
Btw.....my last Dunlop rear.....I got 17000+ miles out of it. \\; Of course, I \\; am light in the azz and normally ride alone.
Thanks Topeka, I too ride alone and my azz is light but the rest of me is about 260.
The first time I looked at the tires they looked OK for a used tire. \\; The indicator bar was deeper than the tread surface by at least a 16th. \\; I'll call my local guy and get a set of new tires put on.
Don't know weather to go with Dunlops or Metzlers.
