After way too much research, I'm putting in the new Harley Motor Mount. In the install process, I 've read "hour glass side up" but I also read "center the mount". Does that mean "center" the bottom round rubber bulb in the hole in the frame cross member or does that mean "center" the tab on the front engine bracket on top of the hourglass. Or something else........It seems with all the slop in the bracket bolts, the two mount bolts, and the main single mount bolt, there is a lot of opportunity to get the bike out of alignment, even if you don't change the length of the lower stabilzer.
Which mount have you bought?
 \\;\\\\\\;
If its looking identilcal to the mount your replacing. \\;\\\\\\; Then it goes in identically. \\;\\\\\\;
 \\;\\\\\\;
Noticed lots of slop in bolt holes thought the engine alingment would have been effected myself. \\;\\\\\\;
It has not when changing mine. \\;\\\\\\; (used Buell part, which same as on bike came in bag 16207-79C)
 \\;\\\\\\;
The different number item (newer and improved H-D version) 16207-79D appears to be a better item. \\;\\\\\\; Stiffer feel to the rubber. But \\;\\\\\\;is getting reports of some bolt hole size variations from stock mounting hardware and reports of excessive shaking at lower \\;\\\\\\;RPM. That \\;\\\\\\;I presume from stiffness?
 \\;\\\\\\;
If this (the "D") is the item your using the flat top goes UP (thats the hour-glass looking end).
Center the holes as best you can. Don't turn turn buckle adjustments yet.
Check for alignment then ride and see if its changed anything.
 \\;\\\\\\;
It's the new D version. \\;\\\\\\; My dealer looked around for a C but no joy. \\;\\\\\\; The bike has a B version, looks different. \\;\\\\\\;
 \\;
The \\;"C" is what \\;I've reciently changed out. \\; \\;Not real \\;happy that its what came in the Buell part bag since its not lasted \\;very well at all on the bike. \\; I expect to change out the mount again with the "D" which \\;I have one on \\;hand to do so when needed.
 \\;
Good luck with the change, \\;interested in what your impressions are at low idle and road speeds with the "D". \\;
after breaking 3 mounts from hard launches and burnouts i found 3 older 1990 era mounts for 12 $ apiece. ebay rules! vibration reduced and havent broken 1 since install. motor will not need realignment unless tanny and motor are moved
OK, way too much information but here goes. Installed D. Idle is rougher but smooths out above 1700 rpm. I centered the lower rubber bulb in the hole in the frame cross member. Tab of bracket above the mount is slightly, \\;just slightly off center. \\;Bought the Buell mount but it appears to be the old B version. Took out the D and installed velva ride. \\;Better at idle but more vibration at speed, especially right floorboard. \\;Reinstalled D. Will check alignment tonight. Tip, during install, let the motor down on the mount and did not tighten center bolt. Started motor \\;for about 10 seconds then \\;tightened center bolt a bit more than snug.  \\; \\;
