I have 16" Wild 1 509s on the way so I'm doing the double, triple research on the install before the fateful day arrives for me to actually start taking things apart. \\; I've beat the forum search function to death and have found alot of info.
 \\;
But, \\;a few questions for the masses (it's 2007 RKC with cruise):
 \\; Wild1 says I need 10+ cables, 8+ for the clutch. \\; True? \\; (I only ask since Wild 1 has been called into question in the past).
 \\;
The service manual says I need to lift the tank to get at the throttle/idle cables. \\; When doing so do I actually have to remove the "Console/Canopy" (the guage cluster on the tank) as stated in the book?
 \\; Any pointers/words of wisdom from those who've done it already?
 \\;
I plan on snapping pics as I go along so that I can somehow post \\;them for others use later.
 \\;
Thanks
 \\;
Mine are 1-1/2" chubbies. I had to use a Texas Chopper clutch cable. That is all I can remember because I have had this set up for so long. My clutch cable was getting bad and that was the only thing long enough to work.
Scott,
Make sure you post some photos when you are finished. \\; As for raising the tank, if you are carefull, you can do it without taking off the console. \\; Just be carefull you don't raise it so hight that you pull the power connector to the fuel pump. \\; \\; I found that the only real need to raise the tank was have enough access to get new cables through the cable guide under the tank. \\; I put a 2X4 block under \\;the tank along with \\;a wood dowel (raised it about 2 1/2" total) and that was all I needed to see where the cables needed to go. \\; If yours is like the 99 RKC, there is a single connector under the seat (right side near the tank) that you can disconnect before you start to lift and not worry at all about inadvertantly pull the power from the fuel pump. \\; \\; Good luck..........Steve
Man those bikes look great! \\; I love the look of RKCs with apes. \\; 07FLHRCMarinePatriot, I would be very greatful if you would post pics step-by-step, as I'm considering the same mod. \\; Best of luck - I'm sure it will look great!
I have a 06 RKC that I installed wild one 509's also. I didn't have to raise the tank. It just takes a little patience to run the throttle and idle cables to the EFI. It probable would have been a little easier but I wouldn't recommend. I thought the most time consuming was extending the cables and then running them internal of the handle bars. I made sure I cut my wires slightly offset to each other. This way you don't have a big bundle of wires to feed through \\; the handlebars. I used weedeater wire to pull the wiring through. It wasn't all that hard to do. Good luck.
Navitimer -
 \\;
 \\; I'll definitely post pics of the step by step when I make it there. \\; I'm still waiting for the bars to show up and then I can check to \\;make sure the recommended cable lengths are correct.

But, so far perusing the service manual makes it look pretty straight forward . . .
