Default Bike lift question

I just purchased a bike lift to be able to turn the bike in the garage. I position the lift with one pad next to the reinforcement bracket towards the rear of the bike (the lift will not fit inside bracket). The other lift pad only catches half on the frame in the front. The front lifts about 4 in before the rear comes off the ground. Is this normal for an Ultra since it has all the extra on the rear or the lift suppose to fit within the bracket?

A little confused as well, if you want the bike turned around, just back it in the garage. Not being mean here, but just trying to give an answer.

Maybe a picture will tell more than I can. I highlighted in yellow the position of the bracket. Again, the lift does not fit inside the bracket. Backing up in the garage is not possible since I don't have reverse and the driveway is uphill. In my opinion the rail of the jack sould fit inside the bracket but is too wide.

Looks o-k to me jack it up and see what it does. You can get a device on swivel wheels, that goes under the front and rear tires that would be better to spin the bike around. Don't know the name of it.

Good luck.

Hi,
My bike is a 1992 Electra Glide. I have a sears lift that looks just like yours only it's red in color. My lift fits just like yours but the balance of the bike at the points you are using are perfect. The weight and balance are the important things. At least to me. The frame should hold the bike just fine!

By the way, I put a rear lowering kit on my bike yesterday. I forgot about the lift and found the lift was almost to tall now to get under the bike. I have to push and turn it a little to get it under. Matter of fact if I put the lift under now it will square the bike straight up with no lift. That was close as I need that lift to do things with the bike. I imagine if I had lowered the front the lift would no longer fit.

Happy lifting........

I purchased the lift from Mejer general store here in Michigan for $99. Is rated for 1500Lbs. It fits under the bike very close (it touches the frame when completely down). I know that Costco and Sam's have for sale a similar one for around $87 but they were out of stock when I got mine.

For saftey measures I use a nylon come-along to secure the bike to the jack.

A liitle added insurance.

I made a filler piece to fit inside the crossmember out of hard wood, 12mm thick and long enough to extend 1" past both frame tubes. It has to fit snuggly between the channels of the crossmember and just slightly thicker than the channel depth. The lift is then placed directly under this and up she goes. Balance is perfect. You could actually lift on the edge of the crossmember if you wanted. Because of the shape you will never be able to bend it. Always strap the bike to the lift, and if you are going to turn the bike around using the lift, make sure the wheels are only just clear of the ground. Hope this helps.

Brian.
