I have the RUB 1 1/2 low kit on my RoadKing and could not get a quality ride with passenger and bike loaded with the standard air shocks,I tried every pressure but could not get it right. I put progessive 440 heavy duty shocks and it is now just so good. I set the shocks one turn for everyday use and six turns loaded. I have just completed a 7000 klm trip with on problems.
The problem with the air shocks is that whem you increase pressure for clearance hight you reduce the travel length which gives the passenger a rough ride.
R.U.B. Lowering Kit WARNING: I recently installed the 1-1.5" RUB lowering kit on my 06 Road King. My bike is now in the shop (while on road trip) having the wiring harness, that runs under the rear fender, replaced as it was almost competely rubbed in half from bottoming out. Shocks were at 35 psi.

I had the SAME issue. Installed a lowering kit, 3 weeks later, I had to disassemble the rear and replace wire harness (did it myself). Tire ate threw it and chewed up the wires. Needless to say, the kit came off and a new seat is in the near future.
I think we all have one of theses lowering kits on the shelf, mind is from eglidegoodies. no matter what fender would rub the tire. anyone want it? (cheap)
I am now running the dragginbaggers system and so far all is good.
Bottomed out too many times for me. Ended up replacing my wire harness. Waiting for the new "Draggin Baggers" to install.
PhatHarley4Me, is there a way to relocate the wiring harness/wires in such a way as to avoid this happening? Perhaps along the inner side of the fender as opposed to the underside of the top? I should really take a look at mine and see if I have any signs of this happening to my bike. Thanks for the heads up.
Yes...You can relocate the harness on the side but the you will probably start rubbing through your fender and in time your paint will start to bubble. Take it from those of us who have already been where you are trying to go. I'm not bashing th SOLOW kit but it's not for me. If I had a "SHOW BIKE" and only ride 20 miles when I ride to a "Show" on nice smooth roads... I would SLAMM it all the time. However, I ride...and I ride long. The roads here in Florida are not as good as one may think. Yes.. It looks GOOD but I had to put my priorities in line.
I put the Burly 1 inch lowering kit on my 06 Rk standard and love the way it lowered the stance and seat height, I have not had any problems yet and kit cost about 100 dollars, I might put the 1 inch lower front fork springs in next to level it out more but may not be necessary.

Just how much air pressure will the stock Harley shocks take?
According to the 2000 OM, the rear shock and front fork pressures should be 0 psi for a rider weight of up to 150 lbs, and the pressure should be increased in 1 psi increments front and rear (the FLHTPI, FLHP, and FLHPI have air suspension front and rear; mine is a 2000 FLHTPI) for each additional 25 lbs of additional rider weight and in 1 psi increments front and rear for each additional 10 lbs of luggage weight, for a maximum of 25 psi front and 35 psi rear.
