I just wired my new zumo550. Went around the Lake Superior circle tour. I wired it into the accessory plug located in the left side cover of my '08 Ultra.
I have constant power to it when my bike is running, I wanted to control it with my accessory switch, that way, when I take off the GPS, \\;I can stop the power going to the GPS holder. \\;The accessory plug has only 3 pins. I only need 2 of them for my Zumo. I've tried just about every combination...any suggestions?
Go to the back of the cigarette lighter and soldier it into the wire there. It goes off with the ignition and is an easy install.

Ride well,

Disclaimer: I don't know if the 08 is the same as my 06.
But I did what you're trying to do. \\; My accessory plug is under the seat by the battery, not the side cover. \\; There's not enough slack to cut and splice the plug, so I bought a Y adapter for the accessory plug and cut the plug off one of the legs. \\; Using a voltmeter, I found the two wires that switched on and off when I used the ACC switch and hooked my Zumo to those.
I have a 06 but I got the intergrated wire harness from J&M for serria electronic, and know who wants to spen more money, but the harness takes care of all those issues. It allows you to have on the ign/*** switch.
I'm not sure about the 08s but my 06 Ultra has an extra pigtail at the headlight under the fairing. \\; I wired my Zumo to it. \\; Check this site, I got the idea from here.
