Default 2006 TC88 Tuning

Are there issues with tuning when changing exhaust on the 06 TC 88 bikes?

As you are well aware, you must change the tune when changing your pipes. The PowerCommander and SERT have proven to provide excellent results.
I went with the PowerCommander

Have you done anything with your injectors? That can make a big difference. You actually don't have to do any special tuning when changing your pipes. It's after the stage 1 (air cleaner upgrade) that you really need to worry about adding a SERT or Power Commander. I like the SERT.

So if all I change is the pipes I only need to do a Stage 1 upgrade. Seems like I read somewhere that the Stage 1 upgrade wasnt working correctly on the 06 bikes

Are you sure about that Terry? I know most people do the a/c and pipes at the same time and retune. But I know two bikes that only did the pipes, 02 WideGlide (carb) and a 04 Road King (efi) and both where retuned, one with jets and the other with the stinking hd download.

Now Iam really curious

Yes Bruce. The reason most people think this is because almost everyone changes their air cleaner at the same time they change their pipes. You don't need to do any special tuning until you change the air cleaner which changes your AFR (air fuel ratio) due to the massive amount of air let in to your motor compared to the stock air cleaner.

All that said. With the lean running 06's I would do the injectors and a SERT just to get the thing running right to begin with. I hear that just changing the injectors makes a huge difference. I'd try that first with the new pipes. If you are not going to do anymore engine mods besides the pipes that might be your best bet, and yes, the Harley download is crap and a waste of money.

My dealer wouldn't do the Harley download on my 06 Road King. I went with Vance & Hines slipons, air filter and a SERT. First ride was yesterday and the bike ran great. No popping or backfiring on deceleration

Regards
Bob

A word on the factory download. While my bike ran okay with it, on my baseline dyno pulls, the a/f was in the 15 range on throttle tip-in

You definately dont need to retune if all you change are the pipes-it may feel slightly different and maybe pop here and there, but no damage is being done. Now if you change the air breather and dont get a download or retune, then you can damage your motor.

Ditto what Terry said!
