Just wondering how bad the deer problem is in your areas. Here in my part of West Virginia it's not safe to ride after sundown.&nbsp\\; The SOB's are thicker than fleas on a camel.

We have alot here in W. Ga. I have them in my yard every night. I ride at night anyway, but go slower and pay attention. They are small in the south. Ive had bigger dogs.

It's really bad up here. They are all over at sundown. You have to be real careful at night.

Easing my way&nbsp\\;down Raton Pass NM&nbsp\\;on my way home from Sturgis last year about midnight and still just barely&nbsp\\;missed a buck&nbsp\\;mule deer as big as a Buick. A minute or&nbsp\\;two later 2 old boys with AZ tags blew by me on Softails at 80+ into the blackness without a care in the world. Be careful out there.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;

I'm an LEO in Nashville.&nbsp\\; I've worked several deer related crashes over the years.&nbsp\\; I worked one a couple of weeks ago involving a deer and a guy on a brand new Harley.&nbsp\\; The guy was just riding along at about 40mph in a straight line not expecting anything.&nbsp\\; Witnesses state that the deer came running out of a wooded area right next to the road.&nbsp\\; The deer was running at full speed and sort of jumped right when it got to the guy on the bike.&nbsp\\; The deer impacted the guy on the head and left shoulder.&nbsp\\; The impact knocked the guy right off his bike into a 4 foot deep ditch on the side of the road.&nbsp\\; The bike continued on down the road without a rider for approximately 150 feet before it too crashed into the ditch.&nbsp\\; When I arrived the poor guy and the deer were laying in the ditch next to one another.&nbsp\\; The deer was dead.&nbsp\\; The guy was unconscious and bleeding from underneath his short helmet.&nbsp\\; The rider was alive when he was transported, but I don't know how extensive his injuries were.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Here in Nashville, the deer population has exploded due to a lack of population control.&nbsp\\; There's very little hunting around here and no predators.&nbsp\\; We have lots of deer related crashes.&nbsp\\; It's a sign of the changing world in a way.&nbsp\\; Here in the metro city, no one hunts anymore.&nbsp\\; A couple of years ago a car hit a deer leaving the deer crippled and dying.&nbsp\\; It needed to be euthanized.&nbsp\\; Here in Nashville any discharging of our weapons results in a shooting review board hearing and a mountain of paperwork that can be very unpleasant.&nbsp\\; A fellow officer used a shovel to whack the deer on the head to put it out of its misery.&nbsp\\; The officer was also worried about discharging his firearm right next to the roadway so close to passing motorists.&nbsp\\; Well, a passing motorist saw the officer whack the deer with the shovel and filed a complaint on the officer resulting in a departmental investigation.&nbsp\\; I guess he should have just shot the damn thing.

[align=left]Northern Caifornia, west slope of the Sierra Nevada Mtns., wild turkey in the day. Skunks and deer at night. Just have to ride on the defence all the time. Hitting one of those big a$$ turkeys will make you pucker a little.

Terrible here in Iowa. Had a local couple a couple of weeks back hit a deer. Last I heard she was on life support with no brain activity, he was in much better shape but still in the hospital. The deer here are big compared to most places. 120 lb does are common and the bucks get much bigger, my brother dressed one out 2 or 3 years ago at 220lbs. I have no idea what the live wieght would be on a deer that size but I know I wouldn't want to meet up with it in a car much less on a bike.

The deer are bad in MN. It seems like every week there is a notice in the paper about a biker hitting a deer and not making it. I try to avoid night riding whenever possible. Stay safe out there!

I'm in Montana, need I say more?&nbsp\\; If it ain't deer, it's elk, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, bear, buffalo, wild turkey and cattle...Ever hear of open grazing?&nbsp\\; I've given up riding after sundown, unless it's an absolute necessity.
