With the IDS incorporated in the casting of the rear wheel, slightly different gearing, different rake, I wanna experience riding one \\;in some \\;curves \\;dangit!!!![:@]
Right there with you. Ive been hoping for liquid cooled motors not just for performance but because I assumed that they would run smooth enough to be rigidly mounted into the frame, thereby stiffening it up. The 09s have several things I have been wanting, the frame, the bigger rear tire, ABS, and the 6 gallon tank. Im interested to see if the exhaust reroute helps with the heat as well. I paid a pretty penny to put true duals on my bike. Would be nice to not have to do that.
My dealer is having a demo day mid august. I will be there. They usually have at least one bagger there.

The rear wheel casting is a non-issue. There will be no functional difference in the IDS, just fewer parts. The gearing change has got to be only to accommodate the larger-diameter rear tire. It rolls farther per revolution. Look for the same number of engine revs at any speed in any gear.
The rake is the same, the trail is greater by a half inch. Between that and the heftier weight it should prove to be harder to throw around in the twisties.
One interesting possibility might exist for the FLHRC. If the 08 and 09 have the same wheel hub, the 09 IDS unit might bolt onto the 07/08 for those who would like a couple extra cogs on their rear sprocket.
Went to the local dealer today to see if they had any 09's. They didn't. I had the full intention of riding one. Not interested in trading at all. Just very curious.
