I bought the updated shell for my 08 SG a couple of week \\;ago. \\; When I  \\;heard about the \\;recall I checked th HD website and sure enough my VIN needed a recall. \\; \\;Build date 12/06/07. \\; I went over the \\;the new \\;dealership palace just opened on the interstate to see what they would do. \\; The clowns there \\;had never seen a service checkup sheet, new nothing about a recall, and said they have not heard about this problem. \\; They took the service sheet to the manager in \\;his office, all managers of all departments need an office of their own to hide in, upon their return the manager told them this recall was just in and I would have to wait untill I recieved a card from the Motor \\;Company before it was official. \\; Well it was just as I expected worthless service, just a bunch of no nothing duds. \\; Later I went home pulled the \\;shell form the gas tank and low and behold it was the updated one. \\; That \\;just shows the Motor Company \\;was being extra careful about the recall build dates. \\; \\;
With all due respect, that is the norm for ALL recall procedures. \\; You have to wait for the official notice from the manufacturer - because THEY have the records to tell them which units will be affected. \\; Yours is a perfect example - if the dealership had done the tear-down and found the updated version in place (as you did), who would have paid for their time? \\; The MoCo would have known you had the newer one in place, so they wouldn't have paid for it. \\; That means YOU would have - and you'd have been here complaining about THAT.
My dealer said to bring it in. They would claim its bad and replace the whole top plate assy under warranty as they couldnt get just the shell
Im stickin with them.
Just talked to my dealer after seeing the recall on the online service check-up. he said it would take him about two weeks to get the parts in, as they didn't have any yet. They haven't even gotten the official word from the moco, just a heads up phone call from the region that they were going to issue the recall.
Texas redneck is right. It also takes the manfacturer or suplier time to make enough parts for replacement. If you wait for official notification in the mail, the parts supply has already been ramped up to meet the demand. Unfortunatly I have been dealing with this for 20 + years!
 \\; I saw the recall on the HD web sight when I put in my VIN number. \\; I called my dealer and made an appointment for 8/11 and they had no probelm with it at all.
took mine to local HD and he had it swapped out in about 3 hours. \\; Great service.
He did say the MOCO had more replacement parts coming in, but they couldn't do the 'official' paperwork submission until \\; 8/4.
