Default Fuel Consumption Issue

I recently purchased a 1998 RK Classic. Today, when I picked up from the paint shop, I noticed my fuel guage droped almost a 1/4 tank in about 2.5 miles. The tank and fenders were taken off for painting (this was the first HD that the painter had worked on). I can find no (0) signs of leaks (looked for wet spots). Any ideas on what would cause this event? Or where to look for a leak?

Thanks

I'm gonna take a stab at this one. The painter had to remove the sender unit from the tank to prep for paint. My crystal ball tells me something is amiss with the re-install of the sender unit. The float may have shifted or the potentiometer of the sending unit may have been damaged. Remove it and test it with a DVOM or cut to the chase and replace it. But I am just guessing. I work on Toyota's.

gotta go with toytec, even if they didnt remove the sending unit, they had to flip the tank around and may have cause the float to hang up, before i tore the bike apart id just fill it up and keep track of the milage to see if you have any further problems. good luck!!
