The ABS works independently on each wheel. Your front brake is going to do most of the stopping in a hard stop situation due to weight shift, but the beauty of ABS is that is actually makes the rear a little more useful by preventing it from locking, which will almost always happen if you use in a panic stop without ABS.

I can attest to the rear wheel locking in a panic stop. I tested out on the MSF instructor course with my 05 Sporty before trading it in for the 08 RK. I overshot the mark by 3 feet due to locking up the rear. Went back the next weekend and did the same thing on the RK with ABS and was very surprised. On the Sporty I was going 20, the RK around 30 and stopped shorter on the RK by a few feet even with the higher speed and the 200 extra pounds.

Great stuff. Luckily I haven't had to use them out on the road but am glad to have them when I do.

After reading some of the ABS threads I'm curious how often some of you crashed your bikes before having one with ABS?? Reading some of these threads it seems obvious to me that some seem to make a habit of locking up their wheels and "panic stopping" For that reason I am glad to see that ABS is becoming more and more available as there is nothing more gut wrenching then seeing another bike laying on the ground but I just wonder if the "panic stop" wheel locking crash was a weekly event or just once in a while? Did it make it hard to keep your bikes clean?

I agree, cager pulled out in front of me the other day, had about 35 yards between us and I was doing about 30mph. Grabbed both brakes with full intensity and stopped without any swerving. The cager did not accelerate either, the old lady never got her speed above 20mph. Without the ABS I probably would have laid the bike down. I had traffic on my left side and no out to the right. Bad deal. ABS is the real deal.

BS----The ABS will work independently but obviously work the best together.

I had ABS on my BMW cycle for 3 years and on my 08 RKC since April 08. It is the best option on any bike #1.
