Default Fairing Bracket Weak Spot

I replaced my main brackets today. Both had broken at the first 90 degree angle at the top. Where is everyone else's breaking? Looks like it would be easy for MOCO to fix if they all break in this manner. Anyone reinforced theirs?

Default Fairing Bracket Weak Spot

Tater,

The shop welded mine the first time (told me they replaced them). I found out later when I had the batwing open. I just changed the supports out for new ones and I requested the shop rivet a a couple of 90 degree doublers in place to reinforce the area.

I believe this is a fairly common feature of the EGs.

So were both of yours broken at the top angle like mine? Did the weld the shop added seem to take care of the problem, or did they break later, too?

The tabs break off where it's folded at the top. I welded mine when I found them both cracked at 10k. I reinforced the tab with a piece of angle.

So how long does the weld last? Does it fix the problem?

I've used a short 90* angle with nuts/bolts. Had one or two replaced under warranty previously.

ive been folowing the issue for a while . the best fix seems to be a small piece of angle drilled and placed in front of broken braket cost is less than 2$ and takes about 20 min.

Harley, what did you fab the 90's out of? I'm leaning toward having my old ones welded back, and maybe adding a bead to stiffen it up at the 90, but maybe I could just use nuts and bolts to do the same thing.

Weld them with a piece of 3/16 angle reinforcement and they should last forever. The defect is from the tab flexing because it's just bent over. Mike
