I rode and 08 Ultra today to see if I would like a touring model.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm comming from an 07 Fatboy.
I could not ride what I can afford which is either a 09 Road King, 09 Road King Classic or
if I'm real lucky on the trade... the option of a Street Glide.
I guess I have some mixed feelings about the Bat Wing but I like the bikes lower attitude.
Opinions Please
Help!!
Paul
If you have mixed feelings about the batwing (I always thought they were ugly myself) the look at going with the Road Glide. It's got a frame mounted faring so you don't feel the wind in your handlebars. (yea, I'll probably get flamed for this!!!)
Personally I didn't like the idea of a faring at all. But I liked the instrumentation and the sound system I got with the RG. For me the Ultra just had too much stuff on it. But that's just me.
The RG turned out to be a good compromize. I don't mind the faring (it kinda grows on 'ya). I think its more stable than the batwing. And on the day I bought the bike I was half way home before I thought to turn on the stereo. I don't smile a lot but at that precise moment I sure had a big one!
Also going with an '08 anything right now is advantageous. Now that the '09s are here they want to get rid of the 08's so you can work a sweeter deal. And don't expect to "get real lucky" on the trade. If they know that you're serious about making a deal today they you are in control more than you might think. First settle on what you want, then make them deal with you on your terms.
i have an 07 ultra if i could do it over again i would probably go with a rk and add a removable batwing for the really hot days and short in town rides. also get a removable tour pack, i would have it all added into the price of the loan it will probably be a little more expensive this way but that 96 motor behind the batwing on a hot day is hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot tttttttttttttt! just my 2 cents, oh and get a radio too

Really depends on what your planning on doing??? I have had a Softtail and went to the Road King Classic and loved the change. The Road King with the shield is a good touring Putt and if want to take of the shield for short putts in and around it was a awesome looking Old Look Bike. But if touring is your thing then a Fairing Bike is the way to go. I have had a few touring bikes but Very Happy with my Road Glide The handling is the best!!! I still have my RKC and use it as my daily rider.
