Dunlop or Michellin
my 2007 street glide has just over 20,000 miles on it and the rear tire needs to be changed shortly....some are suggesting the Michelin Commander but over 20K on the D402 Dunlop I think is pretty impressive...can I get that type of mileage from the Michelin?
A long time policeman and avid Harley rider had a blow out on a new Dunlap last month. It was on the back tire and it cost him his life. I would think Dunlap would be investigating the failure; it may just be a fluke but it happened with a Dunlap and an experienced, safety conscious rider. I don't know anybody else that had a failure with a new tire of another tire brand. Do you?
I rode AVON W/W Gangsters for a few years. Great tires! A little extra silicate in the compound makes for damn fine road hugging especially here in the wet NW. I went back to Dunlop due to getting only 7K on the Gangster and at $230 a pop it took more of my loose change twice a year then what I liked.
Have a friend at work who just related a story about an accident out in Montana last week.
Rear tire (Dunlap) blew out. I searched on the internet about Dunlaps but could not find anything.

I've been running Michelin Commanders for about 2 months now. Don't know how far I'll get with them, but I sure like the way they ride. They seem to grip the road better than my old Dunlops, and these tires don't seem to follow every ridge in the road. I'm not big on buying anything made in France, but in today's world you're likely to buy from somewhere in the world -- we don't make anything anymore!
