I downloaded the latest update to a CD and put in radio per instructions from HD website. The update failed and now I have the CD stuck in radio and radio no longer works. Took it to the stealer to see if there is a quick fix. Nope, radio must be removed and sent to the contractor that repairs radio. Simple update recommended by HD will now cost me hundreds of dollars. I am out of the factory warranty but have the extended warranty. I am now fighting with them to get some of the cost covered. I will post the outcome.
Be careful doing this update. Now I find out that some CDs are thicker and my become stuck (no warning on HD site).
Anyone know how to get a CD out of the HK stereo? I might try miself to remove it if no warranty coverage and if that fails go with a 3rd party stereo. Never was impressed with the HK stereo.
Seriously though that sucks. The HK stereo is so damn quirky. I don't even bother with updates because IMO if it is working don't do anything that might screw that up. Hope you get it resolved.
It appears that it does. From what I get from the info on the HD HK radio page, it's for "'06 and later" models.
It does not appear to be a new update, though. The description still says it's software version 8.19.0, and I've had that installed at least since the end of last year, I'm pretty sure. It's annoying and confusing to figure out, since they insist on naming the update file simply "softwareupdate.zip". Knowledgeable and experienced software houses always use a numbering scheme that typically includes a version number or some other kind of sequential number that would indicate whether it's the same old update or a new one.
I took a look at the HD site. The following is in the directions...
The radio will automatically update the software. This process will take about seven minutes. A message will inform you of the progress of the update. The radio will power down and restart automatically twice during the update. If the CD appears jammed or will not eject, turn off the radio, turn the ignition key switch to OFF, pull the vehicle maxi-fuse, and wait five minutes before replacing the fuse. Try ejecting the CD again once power has been restored.
