Has anyone else run into problems trying to use an MP3 disk with the new stereo system? I burned 3 different CDs which all work on my computer, but they come up with a CD Error when I put them in the bike (06 Ultra). Yesterday it even got so bad it wouldn't let me eject the cd, adjust the volume, turn it off, change stations or anything else. I finally turned the bike off and held two soft keys in while restarting it. That must have reset eveything because I could adjust the volume etc again. It did have the current version according to HD's site so that wasn't it. The only other thing I could think of is that its only around 40 degrees and maybe its to cold for it to work. Any feedback would be appreciated. (I use Roxio to burn the discs and they came up as data disks and did not put the files in folders)

 

First, take the disks to the dealer and slap them into a bike on the showroom floor.

If they play, get your unit replaced under warranty. If they don't play, get some different software to burn the disks.

I use iTunes on the Mac and all MP3 disks work fine across the board. On bikes, autos, and other platforms.

MP3 disks are data disks not audio disks. Audio CD's are wave files and MP3's are data files with the .mp3 extension which is then decoded by your audio system if it has that capability. Have you tried a different brand of disks? I haven't used Roxio in years, I only use Nero for all my DVD and CD burning but that shouldn't make a difference. You should try them in an MP3 player other than your computers CD or DVD drive to see if they play on that player.

I did a little test so this may or may not help you. I used ITunes to burn the CD's. I took my larger play list and I have never done this before. I would have thought that all of the music would fit on one CD, but it took 5-CD's to do this. 68 songs total. The ITunes converted the music back to CD format. I took the first CD out to the bike in the garage 20 degrees or so out there right now. It took the CD player a minute or so before the CD started playing, but it did play fine.

You can change the burn preferences in iTunes to do Audio CDs (your current settings), MP3, or Data CD / DVD (note: may not play in some players)

The Audio CD setting will convert your MP3 files to AIFF or similar on the fly when burning. If you attempt to burn protected AAC audio files (usually these have an extension other than MP3 such as M4P) that you have purchased from the iTunes music store, iTunes will automatically make an Audio CD and convert the files.

To remove AAC protection you need to run the songs thru a third party app such as JHymn.

I'm not versed in the 06 stereo's but to me, any late model (within the last 2 years) should play your MP3 formatted disc's with no problem. If your bike is not playing them, try uploading the latest update again and if that does not work....take it back ot the dealer and have them fix it. It's not much for them to replace it and they send the original back to the dealer to get repaired and they will probably send it back to another dealer as a repaired radio for another warranty job.

All I ever use is Roxio and I have never had a problem playing my MP3's.

 

Dennis, I had the very same error problem about 3 weeks ago. I took it to the dealer and they reflashed the radio. I have rode quite a bit since then and have not had the problem again. They said that sometimes this fixes the problem....but if it didn't they would get me a new radio.
