I own way too may helmets. Full face helmets, modulars, 1/2s and 3/4s. For me, if I am going to wear a full face, it will be a modular. I really like being able to lift the front when I want.
jr...some info please....I have a Caberg modular that I find too noisey because of the wind. I have a shoei RJ Platinum (3/4) that fits me best of all. Am considering the Multitec, for cooler weather, but how is it for wind noise???? I am somewhat of a helmet junkey myself. LOL

To the original poster.....I love the versatility of the modulars. Some, like the Caberg, have a retractable sun visor which I find very useful.

bought the harley. 3 month the latch broke and the shield leaked in the rain. Harley replaced it under warranty. Wore the new one once in the rain, shield leaked and couldn't see. I have a Scorpion full just in case I know it's going to rain or if I have to go out of Florida

I have ended up with 3 types of helmets. A shorty novelty that I ride to work in. A 3/4 helmet with the speakers and VOX mike for when me and my wife are on the road and then a Nolan 102 for mostly spring/winter application. I tell you what that Nolan took awhile to get use to. It gave me claustrophobia for the longest time. Its awsome during the colder months.

Ben - I was able to take a Multitec and an RF-1000 for a test run on the interstate before I purchased. I was surprised that the Multitec was quieter than the 1000. It also fit me much better - which is probably the only reason it was quieter. The only downside is the added weight.

That being said, it's still not quiet enough, IMO. It's not dramatically quieter than my HD 3/4. And, it's a different kind of wind noise than my 3/4. I use the Multitec mostly with my Spyder which has practically no wind protection and at speeds above 65, the Multitec is quieter than my 3/4 (to be expected).

If you can, I would advise trying before you buy. You might even prefer the 3/4.

i bought the harley, made by kbc....what a piece of junk...it lasted about ten thousand miles and is falling appart...ive had several other brands in the past including nolan...nolan is far superior and for less money...statistics show that the chin area is the most common area of injury in a crash... the harley states the chin piece is not for crash protection, so whats the point...

jr...tks for the info.....I was at a large motorcycle shop that sells Shoei. I had to buy it and take it for a spin and "should" be able to return it if I did not like it. They were at least $100 more than what I have seen them on line. Not too many places close to me to try them out. I figured because my RJ 3/4 fit so well, compared to other helmets I have owned, the Mult-tec should fit also. I will continue my search for a friendly dealer.

If you guys are able to get to a shop and try on a helmet that you like I recommend ordering it from www.helmetharbor.com and call them for their price. They aren't allowed to advertise there price of the hlmets by the manufacturers. I saw yesterday that they were offering free two day shipping.

Default Modular Helmets

Wow, a helmet discussion on a Harley site! I've had the Harley/KBC modular, the Shoei Multi-tec and the Nolan N-Com 102. The Harley modular looks good but, it is loud, heavy and overpriced. KBC sells the same helmet for less if you just have to have it.

My next helmet was a red Shoei Multi-tec. This helmet is quiet, super high quality (best paint on the market) and overpriced! However, I went down in April of this year and this helmet saved my brains from being scrambled!

I replaced it with a Nolan N-Com N102. Same quality, more features (removable liner, chin strap attachment etc.) and significantly less $. The chin bar IS safety tested and rated in Europe. They ride a little faster over there and it passes their standard. Oh by the way when I went down on my bike at 40 mph the flip face on my Shoei did NOT come open.

I also tried an HJC Symax II. It did not fit my head. If you have access to a helmet shop then the best thing is to do is to try various helmets to see how they fit your head. If you have to mail order then I highly suggest the Helmet Harbor www.helmetharbor.com. They are very knowledgable and have outstanding prices.

My $.02.

Wife and I have the same units as Skulmn is selling above, use them on colder or wetter days and for long road trips. Have had no problems with these and they are pretty comfortable overall even with the headsets installed but still prefer the KBC 1/2's we got at a rally. Ended up putting a half shield on to keep the rain out when it hits and it actually keeps all but the hardest from hitting the glasses. Usually throw the 1/2's on the top of the luggage under a small cargo net to use at destination.
