Okay, so this is the point I get sucked in. New bike new look kinda thing. My new 09 SG in Silver Denim looks so cool! I love this thing. When I was at the dealership today buying more goodies for it I found this helmet: http://www.harley-davidson.com/mcm/m...bmLocale=en_US I think it looks SUPER cool and would look great with my new ride. Yea, I know it's not about the looks it's about the ride... Anyway, has anyone ever worn a Modular Helmet before? I have a short helmet that I really like and a full face that I like as well. A modular seems like it would be the best of both worlds. I don't always wear a helmet but it will be getting cool here in MKE before long so I will be sporting a bucket on my head more often for the warmth aspect.
Any thoughts or feedback on a modular helmet would be great. I really have no reason to buy another helmet but I really didn't have a good reason to trade my 07 EGC in for the 09 SG either so what the hell?.
I have a Shoei Multitec and a Harley modular helmet. The Shoei is more "solid" , but the Harley modular is a fine helmet.
I own way too may helmets. Full face helmets, modulars, 1/2s and 3/4s. For me, if I am going to wear a full face, it will be a modular. I really like being able to lift the front when I want.

Most Harley helmets, if not all, are made by KBC. In the motocross world KBC helments are not rated real high, at least where I raced. Dont get me wrong, I have a Harley half helmet made by KBC because I liked the skull emblem on it. But you can find many very good modular helmets other than Harley.
I've always used a helmet, some were 3/4 style and some were full face. Earlier this year I bought this version of modular helmet from HD that had the 'flames'. Although heavier than most helmets, I have found it to be one of the most comfortable I've ever worn. I sweat very little even on the hottest of days and so far it has been warm on those cool mornings. The ratcheting/locking mechanism is well constructed and made from metal vs. plastic found in some others (thus the heavier weight) and I really enjoy the convenience and versatility of the modular style. One thing to keep in mind is how the helmet fits as each head is a little different.....okay some are round, some are egg shaped, and some are in between....and each helmet manufacturer tends to build to fit a particular type. The most important thing is not looks (okay the modular looks way coooool) but how it fits you.
Yes, you can, but why would you want to. I find it handy to open it and scratch, but then close it again. The visor also opens and I am constantly adjusting that.
BTW mine is an HJC CL Max. I like it when I'm on the interstate but it's not my first choice when I grab a helmet off the wall.
It's really hard to wear sunglasses with it. The vents aren't worth ****. I've tried it with and without the windshield.
kinda cool looking but if you're buying it for protection you might want to check further. A lot of these modular helmets only offer a plastic piece in the chin area, not really any protection. It should have a sticker on the helmet that says something to that effect.
I wear an HD shorty in the summer and have the multi tec or whatever you call it for the cold weather and frankly I really like them both, but I would not wear the multi in the summer... it is great in cooler weather. I also like most of the HD stuff, my helmet collection is about 10 deep but I wear the HD shorty and
HD multi most of the time.
I've never tried. I would think there would be significant wind resistance. I don't see a reason to do it.
Also, I have often ridden in 100+ temps with the Multitec on my Spyder (no windshield). It has good air flow. More sweat than a 1/2 helmet? Sure. But not bad at all.
