Attention florida riders
NEW FLORIDA LAW:
As of October 1st, anyone caught doing 30mph over the speed limit in Florida faces vehicle confiscation, five to ten years in prison and a ten-year license suspension. Bill HB 137, which was signed into law, was originally targeted at motorcyclists, but was amended at the last minute to include all vehicles.
Originally introduced by State Rep. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, who developed an irrational fear of bikers after he witnessed some pulling wheelies and driving dangerously during a ride-along with Miami police, HB 137 has become known as the Anti-Biker Bill due to its discriminatory nature.
While the bill was modified to include all vehicles before being passed into law, the anti-motorcycle language remains, specifically that referring to the revocation of a motorcycle endorsement, leading to some confusion. It's not known if car drivers will face the same license suspension as bike riders.

Damn. A constitutional legal challenge waiting to happen. Federal, state and local governments are getting overly carried away with the idea of confiscating vehicles and assets. Five to ten for a traffic violation ain't nothing to sneeze at either.
This site say's it is still a House Bill and has not been signed into law yet until passed by the Florida Senate. It's from March 2008, with an unknown date posted for the update. Has it passed the Senate yet?

That makes more sensce. 10 years for a traffic violation infraction couldnt be correct. Three offenses of reckless ,50 or over becomes a midemeaner than a felony. You can only be sent to a state prison for a felony conviction.
The one that went into effect July 1st is the law about having to have an MSF course before you can get your motorcycle license in Florida and also having to have a MC license in order to register a motorcycle in Florida.
The speeding law goes into affect October 1. It is 50 mph over and the first offense is a fine, second is a fine and license suspension for a year, and the third is a felony with a 5k fine and 10 years without a license. They removed the vehicle confiscation. Also covers keeping 2 wheels on the ground, unless the road surface causes a tire to lose contact and having to have a vertical license plate.
