A suggestion: pull the dipstick and see if you smell gasoline on the dipstick. If you do, you are probably so rich that you are getting gas wash past the rings/cylinders contaminating the oil.

That's exactly what I was thinking.Get a good tune. May I recommend Joes cycles in NY State. They did mine. I run a 117 HillSide Build, with absolutely no problems.

There is nothing wrong with your build, except for it's poor tune. I have 53+k miles on my build. I have a 10.5 compression build with HQ heads and cams. I'm getting 40 MPG at 70-75 MPH. I go on 2 week trips every year, for anywhere from 3k to 5k miles. I have no qualms about just taking off and going, this is a very dependable motor. I still expect to get well over 100,000 miles before I have to do a major overhaul on this motor.

Power on demand, dependable..........What more do you want?

The others are correct, no need to worry about reliability if it was done right. Running a HQ 120" build at 10.5:1 and have been all over the states on it so far this year, 15 k miles so far this year and getting low 40s on average for mileage. Engine does not use but a half quart between oil changes (5k miles) I dont hesitate to hop on and go anywhere.

The tune is the key, get someone to tune that knows what they are doing and you will gain a lot of economy and at the same time increase longevity as you wont be washing the cyl walls down with gas.

+1 Everyone is telling you correct,, actually your build is not very radical at all, when you get it tuned correctly I'd like to see the numbers as I have a set of 55gs to go in my bike when I get the funds to do the head work. If I remember correctly the 55's need about 10:1 10.5:1 on the compression ratio.

I really appreciate all of your input. I plugged into my PCIIIr the other day and loaded a blank map with only some timing retard to help with any pinging from the dealer download. Just to be safe I added a little extra fuel with the cylinder trim to keep from being too lean. A short ride Sat evening and rode it to work last night, and it's not using so much fuel now. I will be getting a tune Thursday and I hope everything works out for the best.

I wish I lived closer to Doc1! If this tuner doesn't get it right, I might have to make the long haul and get it done by the best.

Im running 10:8.1 compression with those same cams (TW55) have 7,000 miles on the build.
Those cams are a similar grind to the SE211 cams ,as stated in the above replies with a good tune and take some timing out those cams work real well.

I agree with the rest, find a good dyno tuner and get it dialed in.
