Thumbs up Hidden Antenna Fix!!!

Ok, I bought a Biketronic retro radio kit for my 06 EGS a few months ago and I am very happy with everything except the cheap a$$ hidden antenna they sent with it. I installed it in the fairing as the directions said to do and the reception was horrible to say the least! Guess that is what you get with a 6" piece of wire with an antenna end on it. Anyhow I looked at other hidden antennas, exterior antennas and did allot of reading on here. Just could not bring myself to pay more $$$ for something that may or may not work. Here is my 100% free fix and it works great!!!

My bike had the antenna wire ran from the faring down the back bone and was curled up underneath the left side cover in case a stereo was added down line I guess. So I hooked the stock wire up to the back of my radio and buttoned up the faring. Then I ran the stock wire up along the fender strut to my tour-pak (sorry forgot to mention I added the TP last winter) I then plugged the biketronic antenna into the aft end of the stock wire. Then I taped the connection all up with electrical tape so it would not vibrate apart. I then ran the biketronic antenna wire up thru the bottom of my TP using an existing hole. The wire was then secured to the back wall of the TP using electrical tape. I also have a TP liner so none of this is seen, but I am sure it will work without one but won't be as clean looking. Then I just zip tied the cable under the TP to the mounting bracket and under the side cover to take up the slack so it is not visible. Closed everything up and let me tell you the reception is 150% better. I have been trying it out for awhile to see before I made this post and I am very happy with it!!

Why is it better in the TP than being in the fairing, not sure unless it is the added length of the stock wire or that it is completely away from all the electronic wires, gauges and radio? If your hidden antenna is giving you fits, give this a try. Doesn't cost a thing!! Just thought I would share. Bryan

I am using a $20 Crutchfield powered antenna pn 12044UA200. It's working good for me in my Dragonfly but blueflht says they don't work so good on HK headunits. Guess it's a crap shoot so if you got something working good for ya go with it! Here's some pics of my install.

I had the Tune Trapper in my fairing but it wasn't picking up as well as I wanted it to so I went back to my stock antenna.Alot of it has to do with your location. If you live in or near a city it's easier to get by with a fairing mounted antenna.
