My FLHT has a quick detach tour pack. We stayed overnight a couple weeks ago so I just locked the tour pack lid and saddlebags, but I got to thinking. All anyone has to do is just detatch the tour pack and take the whole thing with them. Does anyone have a way to lock the detatchable tourpack to the bike?
now, I'm sure that somebody will take issue with this, since there have been long threads about changing out the saddlebag mounting system...As a friend of mine is fond of saying (he's a retired LEO), locks keep honest people honest...
I use one of these on my quick detach tour-pak on my 08X. I figure I might as well slow them down.
Harley sells a kit to lock the detachable, about $35. If you search, thre is a post on here where someone used a padlock from Wal-Mart, it has a long shackle and comes apart, sort of like a bicycle lock, costs $9.00 and when it's on, you can't really see it unless you're really looking. I played with the HD one, had some issues getting it to lock and had to bend the key. I was leaving on a trip, hadn't ironed it out yet, but wanted to lock it down when we were staying overnight. I ran out, got the lock from Wal-Mart and now I don't have any ambition to work out the HD system, the cheap lock works great.
I bought a two pack of the HD detachable locks, one for my touring pack and one for the back rest. I always felt a little weird locking the tour pack when it would detach so fast. The locks work great.
