Default Busted batwing support brackets

My 07 EG just ate the fairing supports at the top end. Was on a trip & local dealer says he sold his last pair yesterday. I patched em up for the remainder of the trip. They held up till just before I got home. Anyone repaired theirs and have any tips. Its on warranty but I don't need the downtime or the 120 mile trip to the dealer. And I don't want the same brackets installed to break again in another 20K.

The new brackets are a little thicker than the old ones.
I also mixed up some J-B Weld and put it on the weak spots where the old ones broke. No problems since.

Good luck

Common problem. Mine broke shortly after buying the bike. Had em welded back together with some additional metal added.....been fine since.

I drilled and put L brackets on mine (horizontal brackets) a while back, no issues since...screw trying to put new ones on, you'll just be replacing them again! PIA in my opinion. the horizontal ones can't be fixed but are easy to replace. but they are made the same crappy metal as the broke one was though,,,,,cheap as hell!

If you have access to a welder and some basic hand tools, here goes. Weld the broken parts back together. Then, take a strip of of metal the same thickness as the bracket, 1 in wide and long enough to make a J shape. welding it around the radius end of the the bracket, thereby forming a pocket for the capscrew and reinforcing the end of the bracket. The smaller brace, I added an L shaped strip to the under side of the broken part to reinforce it. It took longer to remove it than it did to repair it. Dan

Wow Mine broke this weekend. Will be replaced today when the new rear tire goes on. Sounds like someone at Harley needs to redesign the thin bracket.

The horizontal ones can be fixed and are stronger afterwards. All of my brackets have broken and been fixed, and haven't broken again, if you buy new ones they WILL break again

I've read quite a few posts on this. Is this something the dealers aren't covering?

How do you know if they are broken (more wiggling, something hanging down, etc)?
